We want be competitive against PAK and India: Nepal captain Rohit Paudel

Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel has asserted that his team is capable of being competitive against hosts Pakistan and India in the 2023 Asia Cup, starting tomorrow. The Nepal team is all set to make their Asia Cup debut, having been clubbed in Group A alongside the hosts and India. "We are playing for the first time, and it's a big achievement for all of us. Pakistan is a very good side, and we want to give a competitive game to them, as well as India. So, we deserve to be here," cited Paudel during the pre-match press conference on Tuesday. When asked about the biggest difference between his side and the Pakistanis, he said that barring experience, there is not much difference between the two sides. "The difference would be the experience. If you count on skills, both batting and bowling are the same (for both sides). But, if you count on experience, Pakistan is an experienced side." "Both the teams have world-class bowlers and batsmen. Our focus is to win one ball (at a time), regard

Would have been nice if Asia Cup was held in Pakistan n its entirety: Babar

Pakistan captain Babar Azam doesn't want to make a hue and cry about 'Hybrid Model' of hosting the Asia Cup but felt that it would have been nice to have hosted the marquee tournament in his country in its entirety. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have hosting rights for the Asia Cup but the Asian Cricket Council headed by Jay Shah opted for 'Hybrid Model' where Sri Lanka became the co-hosts after it was clear that Indian cricket team won't travel to Pakistan. "If you ask me, it would have been good if the whole tournament would have been held in Pakistan but unfortunately nothing can be done about it," Pakistan skipper Babar said at the pre-tournament media conference ahead of the opening match against minnows Nepal. Pakistan start on Wednesday (Aug 30) against Nepal in Multan and then fly to Sri Lanka the very next day for the big ticket clash against India at Pallekele on September 2. Within 24 hours (September 3), they are back in Lahore for their Super Four game on September 6

Asia Cup 2023, PAK vs NEP preview: Pakistan lock horns with Nepal in Multan

Pakistan will begin their campaign in the Asia Cup on Wednesday taking on Nepal in the city's sweltering heat as multi-team international cricket returns to the country after nearly 15 years. It has been a long, rough road for Pakistan cricket ever since the militant attack on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in March, 2009. Following the attack, not only did Pakistan lose the Champions Trophy hosting rights but also its share of the World Cup matches in 2011. With the International Cricket Council (ICC) and member nations reluctant to visit the country because of security reasons, Pakistan went without an international game at home for nearly eight years against top-tier teams. Which is why, the four matches of the Asia Cup being held in the country hold great significance for Pakistan, who have also been awarded the 2025 Champions Trophy. Pakistan, who recently rose to No. 1 in ODI rankings after a clean sweep of the ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka, should win comfortab

On eve of HC hearing, PCB's Zaka Ashraf calls emergency meet to save chair

In a desperate attempt to save his chair, head of the Pakistan Cricket Board management committee has called an emergency meeting on Sunday on the eve of his hearing in Lahore High Court. Zaka, who was appointed in June by the previous government to hold elections of affiliated units, has moved the High Court to obtain a stay order against any decision by the government and election commission of Pakistan to remove him. Although the PCB has made no official announcement about the meeting, insiders say all the CMC members were called and told about the meeting. The interesting part is that the meeting has been called in Karachi one day before the Lahore High Court hearing at which the PCB has assured the judge they would submit an election schedule for the post of chairman. The caveat is that even if the CMC forms a Board of Governors on Sunday it has to be ratified by the ministry of sports and also by the election commissioner and secondly only the patron in chief (sitting Prime .

Pak players reluctant to sign central contracts, ask PCB for bigger share

: Pakistani players are reluctant to sign a long-term central contract with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after differences over sale of licensed digital rights of players between the two parties. Though the last set of central contracts of the players expired on June 30, the PCB has so far not been able to convince them to sign the new contracts. The Pakistan squad has already reached Sri Lanka for their One-Day series against Afghanistan and for the subsequent Asia Cup. A reliable source close to the players said the dispute centered around the demand of the players for a bigger share and say in the sale of their digital rights, handled by the board. The players' point of view is that other cricket boards either are not involved in the sale of players digital rights / NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) or have a proper agreement with them on the sharing of revenues from this avenue, the source said. He said with companies like Rario headed by two Singapore-based Indians or Dream Spor

PCB includes Imran Khan in revised video but controversy refuses to die

In an apparent bid to end the controversy over the release of a video in honour of the former players, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has created more problems for itself. The PCB had faced a lot of backlash on social media over completely ignoring former captain Imran Khan in the tribute video released on August 14. Late Wednesday night, the PCB came out with an inexplicable explanation that due to duration problems, the tribute video was abridged and some important clips were missing from it but it had been rectified in the complete version. It also said the PCB had launched a promotional campaign leading up to the 2023 World Cup and the tribute video was part of it. The interesting part is that the duration of the earlier video from which Imran was missing and the completed version are around the same duration but this time the board has hacked all the clips and pictures of Wasim Akram and replaced them with Imran. Cricket fans are now asking and wondering on social media whe

Shaheen Afridi signs three-year deal with ILT20 franchise Desert Vipers

Star left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi has signed a three-year contract with Desert Vipers for the second season of the UAE's ILT20, and will become the first Pakistan player to play in the league in January next year. "I am excited to join the Desert Vipers. I know there are many Pakistan cricket fans in the UAE and I hope they will support our team in the upcoming ILT20," Afridi said in a statement. The next season of ILT20 is scheduled to begin on January 13, and Afridi could join the team after returning from Australia. The Vipers had tried to sign a few players from Pakistan last year as well but those attempts didn't materialise. Last year, Vipers had signed Azam Khan, which would have made him the first Pakistan player in the ILT20, but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not grant him the no-objection certificate to play in the league. The PCB's current chairman Zaka Ashraf has, however, is allowing players to participate in various T20 leagues. "Shaheen is undeniably a play

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed sports psychologist Dr Maqbool Babri to counsel the men's team during ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka followed by the high-profile Asia Cup before the marquee World Cup comes calling. "Yes, Dr Maqbool Babri who has worked in the past with counselling of some of our players will be accompanying the squad," a PCB source said. Babri has in the past also worked with some players helping them understand how to handle pressure situations and get through bad performances and personal issues. Former captain Misbah-ul-Haq to head Pakistan's Cricket Technical Committee

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday announced the formation of a Cricket Technical Committee (CTC) to be headed by former captain Misbah-ul-Haq. Besides Misbah, former skippers Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez will be the members of the committee. It also includes the head of the PCB's domestic cricket department and a representative of the chairman of the Cricket Management Committee. For the last few days, speculations were rife that Zaka Ashraf had formed the cricket committee with Misbah as its head and that it had already held a meeting. But the official announcement came one day after another former captain, Rashid Latif, who attended the preliminary meeting, made it clear that he has no association with any PCB committee. The board also confirmed the Cricket Technical Committee would only make recommendations on cricket-related matters to the chairman, who will take a final decision on them. The PCB said CTC will provide recommendations on cricket-related matters,

Former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez is a front-runner to become the national team's chief selector after the conclusion of the team's ongoing Sri Lanka tour. According to sources, Hafeez is favoured by the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board's Cricket Management Committee (CMC) Zaka Ashraf, to be appointed as the chief selector a post that is lying vacant after the pervious CMC was dissolved in June. "Zaka met with former captain, Rashid Latif and Hafeez and spoke to them about becoming chief selector. SL vs PAK 1st Test: Imam-ul-Haq's fifty helps Pakistan win by 4 wickets

Pakistan made it a difficult chase at times but the visitors completed a four-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first cricket test on Thursday. Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals but opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq scored an unbeaten half-century, his eighth in test cricket, to see the tourists through before lunch on the fifth day. Sri Lanka won the toss and batted, scoring 312, and Pakistan replied with 461 in its first innings. The home side scored 279 runs in its second at-bat, leaving Pakistan 131 runs to win. Pakistan didn't get off to a good start and limped to 48 for three at stumps on day four. When play resumed on the final day, Pakistan needed 83 runs and there were memories of the 2009 test at Galle. That's when the visitors needed 97 runs with eight wickets in hand chasing a target of 168 but collapsed and were bowled out for 117. Babar Azam added 41 runs for the fourth wicket Thursday with Imam and the run chase looked a mere formality, but Prabath Jayasuri
