Govt launches 'Anna Chakra' platform to optimise PDS supply chain

Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi on Thursday unveiled 'Anna Chakra', a groundbreaking supply chain optimization tool for the Public Distribution System (PDS). Developed in partnership with the World Food Programme and IIT-Delhi, the system leverages advanced algorithms to optimize foodgrain movement across the country's logistics network, an official statement said. The initiative covers 4.37 lakh Fair Price Shops and 6,700 warehouses, targeting the country's food security programme serving 81 crore beneficiaries. Preliminary assessments across 30 states project annual cost savings of Rs 250 crore with a Rs 58-crore reduction in quantity-kilometer metrics. The tool integrates with the Railways' Freight Operations Information System and the PM Gati Shakti platform, marking a significant technological upgrade. Priyanka lying about rice distribution in Chhattisgarh, claims CM Sai

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai had accused Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra of spreading lies about the quantity of rice given to people under the Public Distribution System (PDS) in the state. The Congress' habit of lying will not go away so easily, Sai said in a post on X on Saturday night. In an interview to a news channel, Priyanka Gandhi had claimed that during the previous Congress government in Chhattisgarh, 35 kg ration (per family) was being offered but it was reduced to 5 kg under the Sai-led BJP government. Reacting to her statement, Sai said on X, "Congress has been suffering from the disease of lying for 70 years, it will not go away so easily. Priyanka ji, if you get spare time from spreading lies, then say a few words on the Rs 5,000 crore rice scam committed by the (previous) Congress government in Chhattisgarh." "Taking advantage of your ignorance, Chhattisgarh Congress leaders fool you people every time. Last time, Congressmen had told Rahul ji th

Rice inflation: FCI chief appeals traders to buy grain under OMSS

Expressing concern over rice inflation, FCI chief Ashok K Meena on Friday asserted that the PDS rice is of "extremely" good quality and urged traders to buy the grain under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) to boost domestic availability and contain price rise. To encourage more participation of rice traders and processors under the OMSS, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) on Friday increased the bid quantity to 2,000 tonnes per bidder from 1,000 tonnes and the minimum bid quantity was reduced to 1 tonne from 10 tonnes, he said. The positive response received for wheat sales under the OMSS has helped keep wheat and atta prices under check. In the case of rice, the offtake of grain has not been much, so far, under the scheme, he added. Briefing media, FCI Chairman and Managing Director Meena said, "Rice inflation data is slightly a concern. It is at 13 per cent year-on-year, which is a cause of worry. That's why we are selling rice under the OMSS". However, rice sale has been only
