Plastic industry should focus on manufacturing quality, exports: Goyal

Commerce and Industry minister Piyush Goyal on Friday urged the plastic industry players to focus on manufacturing quality and sustainable products with new technology and innovation to become globally competitive and increase exports. "...we are introducing quality checks and quality control on orders to stop the production or consumption, whether domestic or imported, of sub-standard and low quality, under-priced goods, which tend to hurt the plastic industry, our consumer interests and hamper the overall reputation and image of our country," the minister said at the 2nd 'Technology Conference for Growth of Plastic Industry' organised by industry body AIPMA. Goyal said, the government is very sensitive to the potential of the industry as well as about the problems of the plastic industry. Himachal Pradesh to frame policy to find alternatives to plastic: CM Sukhu

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Monday said a policy would be framed to find alternatives to plastic within a year and industries would also be encouraged to seek substitutes for plastic. Presiding over a state level function on the World Environment Day here, Sukhu said that gradually thereafter, the state government would enforce a complete ban on use of plastic. Emphasising on utilisation of plastic waste in road construction, he also called for incorporating culture and environment-oriented courses in the educational curriculum to promote environmental awareness amongst children, an official statement said. Mandaviya assures govt support to those investing in plastic industry

Chemical and Fertilisers Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday called on investors to invest in Indian plastic industry and assured a strong government support. Addressing CEOs conclave at PLASTINDIA here, the minister said, "the country boasts a strong and impartial legislative structure along with favourable manpower and technical expertise", an official statement said. "India provides a big market as the consumption power is increasing along with a rising middle class," he said and asked investors to understand India's ethos and invest in the country's growth story. More than 90 CEOs of the plastic industry from both India and abroad participated in the conference.

EKI lists India's plastic project under global accreditation standard

Carbon credit developer and supplier EKI Energy Services (EKI) on Tuesday said it has listed a plastic project from India under a global accreditation standard, becoming the first company to do so. With this, the Indore-based carbon credit expert that has been working in the realm of climate action and offset solutions since the last 14 years across 16 countries, has become the first ever firm to list a plastic project from the country with an aim to generate India's first-ever international plastic credits, a statement said. The project ensures that plastic waste -- predominantly Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) waste, PET flakes and chips -- is duly sourced and recycled to produce Recycled Polyester Staple Fibre (RPSF) that can be further used in the textile industry for garments and other fabric-based utility products. Punjab govt to impose ban on single-use plastic from July

The Punjab government on Sunday announced to impose a ban on single-use plastic from July. During a virtual state-level function to mark World Environment Day 2022, Secretary, Science, Technology and Environment Rahul Tewari announced the decision of the state government for environment protection. He said the ban on single-use plastic will be imposed from July to make Punjab greener and healthier. Tewari said the state "government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is committed to make Punjab clean, green and pollution-free by walking on the path shown by our revered Gurus".
