AB-PMJAY led to huge out-of-pocket expenditure savings, says Govt

The Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana has resulted in huge out-of-pocket expenditure savings related to hospitalisations for the targeted beneficiaries, Minister of State for Health S P Singh Baghel told the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. A total of 3.14 crore beneficiaries were benefited during the last two years under the Centre's ambitious health insurance scheme, he said. The states/UTs having maximum and minimum number of beneficiary families supported by the Centre and state are Uttar Pradesh and Lakshadweep, respectively, Baghel said in a written reply. Responding to a question, he said in Gujarat, Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) is implemented in convergence with the state scheme Mukhyamantri Amrutum. As of July 19, 2023, a total of 41.34 lakh hospital admissions worth Rs 8,564 crore have been authorised under the scheme in Gujarat, Baghel stated. Gujarat govt launches revamped PMJAY-MA scheme with Rs 10 lakh health cover

The Gujarat Government on Tuesday launched the revamped Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana-Mukhyamantri Amrutam (PMJAY-MA) scheme, under which people can avail free medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh instead of the previous limit of Rs 5 lakh. Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel on Tuesday officially launched the revised health insurance scheme from his office in the presence of health department officials, a state government release said. Starting Tuesday, beneficiaries of the PMJAY-MA in Gujarat will receive an insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh, which is a two-fold rise from the previous cover of Rs 5 lakh, it stated. While the Centre's PMJAY is popularly known as Ayushman Bharat, MA stands for the state government's Mukhyamantri Amrutam (MA) scheme, which was merged with the central health scheme. About 41.8 mn hospital admissions worth Rs 489 bn authorised under AB-PMJAY

Approximately 4.18 crore hospital admissions worth Rs 48,934.9 crore have been authorised under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (AB-PMJAY) through a network of 26,267 empanelled healthcare providers, including 11,700 private hospitals till December 4, the Lok Sabha was informed on Friday. The percentage of hospital admissions authorised in the private sector by count and amount are 57 per cent and 67 per cent, respectively, Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar said in a written reply. On whether the government was aware that people were not able to avail of benefits under AB-PMJAY due to the apathy of private hospitals, Pawar said healthcare providers could not deny treatment to genuine beneficiaries according to the terms and conditions of empanelment. In case of denial of treatment by the empanelled hospital, beneficiaries can lodge grievances on the designated web portal or mobile application of Central Grievance Redressal Management System, she .

Transgender persons will now get composite healthcare services under the Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY with a MoU being signed between the National Health Authority and the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Wednesday hailed the MoU as one of its kind in the country which will give impetus to ensuring rightful and respectable place for transgenders The MoU will extend all healthcare benefits to transgender persons (holding a transgender certificate issued by the National Portal for transgender persons) across the country, Mandaviya said. The ministry of social justice and empowerment (MOSJE) will fund Rs.5 lakh insurance cover per transgender beneficiary per annum. Female utilisation of AB PM-JAY at 46.7% from Oct 2019 to Sep 2021: Study

Female utilisation of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) services stood at 46.7 per cent from October 2019 to September 2021, according to a new study. Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Kerala and Meghalaya have a higher number of Ayushman Cards issued for women as compared to their male counterparts, the study showed. Apart from expanding and creating a network of almost 27,300 private and government hospitals, AB PM-JAY has also greatly contributed in shifting the gender paradigm with over 42 per cent of beneficiaries availing treatment under the scheme being women. The study on 'gender' under AB PM-JAY from October 2019 to September 2021 reveals that female utilisation of AB PM-JAY services stood at 46.7 per cent of the total utilisation.
