A man from Gujarat's Vadodara city has been arrested for posing as a PMO official to secure the admission of two children in a private school here and trying to dupe it of huge sums with his fake identity, an official said on Saturday. The arrest of Mayank Tiwari on Friday comes months after an Ahmedabad resident, Kiran Patel, was held from a five-star hotel in Jammu and Kashmir for posing as a senior official from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Hospitality apart, Patel had also enjoyed security cover by tricking officials in the Valley. Identifying himself as a director (strategic advisory) at the PMO in New Delhi, Tiwari first got in touch with the school and its trustee in March 2022, during the admission season, said the official from Waghodia police station in the city. The ministries of statistics and programme implementation and personnel as well as the Prime Minister's Office are the top offices to have reduced their backlog of pending RTI applications by over 70 per cent, according to an analysis of the Central Information Commission annual report for 2021-22 by a voluntary group. The report from Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) accessed by PTI shows that among other government departments, the Department of Space reported a 55.51 per cent decline in its RTI application backlog in 2021-22 vis-a-vis 2020-21. Three Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers were on Thursday appointed to different posts in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Deepak Mittal, a 1998-batch IFS officer, has been appointed as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the PMO, an order issued by the Personnel Ministry said. Vipin Kumar and Nidhi Tewari have been appointed as Deputy Secretary and Under Secretary respectively in the PMO. Kumar is a 2013-batch IFS officer and Tewari belongs to the 2014 batch. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved extension in the tenure of Rudra Gaurav Shresth, Joint Secretary in the PMO, for a period of two months beyond February 9, 2023 or until three weeks after joining of Mittal as the OSD, whichever is earlier, it said.

The Delhi State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) has granted environmental clearance to the proposal for the construction of the 'Executive Enclave' which will house the new Prime Minister's Office and Cabinet Secretariat. The Delhi State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) had last week recommended the SEIAA to give green nod to the project. The SEIAA discussed the project at a meeting on Wednesday and approved it. The Forest Department had on August 23 granted permission to the Central Public Works Department, the user agency, to transplant 487 of the 807 trees at the site under the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994. CPWD officials said the proposal had been submitted for environmental clearance in December last year. The SEAC, which vets the proposals before they are sent to SEIAA for clearance, had earlier this month set up a sub-committee to examine the implementation of the Delhi government's policy for tree transplantation and review the site plan in order
