Mary Kom to lead oversight Committee to probe against WFI president

Boxing great MC Mary Kom will lead a five-member Oversight Committee that will probe sexual harassment charges against Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The government-appointed Committee will also run the day-to-day affairs of WFI for the next one month. The other members of the panel are Olympic medallist wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, former badminton player and Mission Olympic Cell member Trupti Murgunde, ex-TOPS CEO Rajagopalan and former SAI executive director - teams - Radhika Sreeman. The announcement of the panel was made by Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Monday. Thakur had decided to form the Committee on Saturday following a three-day sit-in protest by some of the country's top wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik and Ravi Dahiya against WFI and Singh.

No change of guard ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan between Jan 14 and 28

There will be no change of guard ceremony between January 14 and 28 due to the rehearsals of Republic Day parade and the Beating Retreat ceremony, according to an officials statement. The change of guard ceremony is a military tradition that is held every week to enable a fresh group of the President's Bodyguards to take charge. "The change of guard ceremony will not take place between January 14 and 28, 2023 (i.e. January 14, 21 and 28) due to rehearsals of Republic Day parade and Beating Retreat ceremony," said the statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

President Droupadi Murmu to arrive in Odisha on Thursday on two-day visit

President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to arrive here on Thursday for a two-day trip to Odisha during which she will go to the Jagannath temple in Puri, visit her old school, besides attending other programmes. The state government on Wednesday declared a half-day holiday for all offices, schools and colleges in the state capital region on this occasion. Educational institutes and government offices located in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation area will be closed after 1 pm, according to a notification issued by the revenue and disaster management department. This will be the first visit of Murmu, hailing from Odisha's Rairangpur area in the tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj district, to the state after becoming the President on July 25. As per the President's itinerary, Murmu will fly to Puri by an IAF chopper after she arrives at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here. She is scheduled to spend about one hour inside the 12th-century Shree Jagannath Temple in the pilgrim town.
