A CBI team on Monday visited the residence of former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi in connection with "further probe" in the land for jobs scam case, officials said. There is no search or raid taking place, they said. The CBI had already filed its charge sheet in the case and the special court has summoned the accused, including former Railways Minister Lalu Prasad and his family members and others on March 15, they said. The agency has kept the further probe open into the alleged scam case, they said. The visit of the CBI team is in connection with further investigation in the case, they said. It was alleged in the FIR that some persons, although residents of Patna in Bihar, were appointed as substitutes in Group-D posts during the period 2004-2009 in different zones of the railways located in Mumbai, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Jaipur and Hajipur and in lieu thereof, the individuals themselves or their family members transferred their land in the name of family members of Prasad and a
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Monday claimed that the CBI team's visit to the residence of his mother and ex-CM Rabri Devi was a result of his family's relentless opposition to the ruling BJP at the Centre. He also asserted that his father Lalu Prasad, who has been named in the land for jobs case, had "no powers" to provide employment in exchange of favours as the then railway minister. Earlier in the day, a CBI team visited the Rabri Devi's residence here in connection with a "further probe" in the land for jobs scam case, officials said. There is no search or raid taking place, they said. "It is an open secret that probe agencies are acting against political opponents of the BJP and helping those who agree to align with that party. Examples of Ajit Pawar in Maharashtra and Mukul Roy in West Bengal are proof, the RJD leader told reporters outside the Bihar assembly. He, however, declined to comment on questions about the "timing" of the latest CBI action, which co

The ruling 'Mahagathbandhan' in Bihar on Wednesday cried foul over raids conducted at a number of premises owned by leaders of the RJD, the largest constituent of the seven-party coalition. The CBI raids, in connection with a railway land for jobs scam, commenced barely a few hours before the new government was to prove its majority on the floor of the state assembly. "I do not wish to comment on merits and demerits of the case. But the timing of the raids is a clear indication that the investigating agencies are trying to help the BJP," alleged Upendra Kushwaha, parliamentary board president of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's JD(U). The BJP has been stripped of power on account of the volte-face earlier this month by Kumar, who has now aligned with the RJD, Congress and Left combine. Former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, whose own residence here was raided by the agency in connection with the case a few months ago, told reporters, "The people are watching and they can understand what is
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday called on his old associate and RJD president Lalu Prasad, with whom his rivalry has been the stuff of political legend and whose party helped him dump the BJP to form a new government. Kumar walked down to 10, Circular Road, the bungalow allotted to Prasad's wife Rabri Dev, right across the street from his official residence 1, Anney Marg, accompanied by cabinet colleague and close aide Vijay Kumar Chaudhary. Prasad's younger son and RJD heir apparent Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who has returned as the deputy CM after five years, rushed to the bungalow's gate to receive his boss. Kumar warmly greeted Prasad, whom he often calls his bade bhai (elder brother), presenting the RJD president with a bundle of flowers which the former CM accepted with one arm bandaged because of a shoulder fracture he suffered last month. Notably, Kumar, the de facto leader of the JD(U), was last seen at 10, Circular Road earlier this year when he attended an Ift
