Raj polls: Journalists, employees of 8 depts to get postal ballot facility

Mediapersons and employees of eight departments such as electricity, transport and health will be able to vote through postal ballots in the November 23 Rajasthan Assembly elections, an official said on Wednesday. The Election Commission has issued a notification in this regard and it will be the first time journalists in the state can avail the postal ballot facility. Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta said that according to the order, doctors, paramedical staff, ambulance workers, electricians in the energy department, linemen and pump operators in the Public Health Engineering Department, turners, those working in milk committees of Rajasthan, employees and drivers and conductors in transport corporation, firefighters and mediapersons authorised by the Election Commission will be given the facility of voting through postal ballots from this year. Freebies ahead of polls: SC seeks responses from MP, Rajasthan govts

The Supreme Court on Friday sought response of the Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan governments on a PIL alleging distribution of freebies to voters ahead of assembly polls in both states. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra also issued notices to the Centre, the Election Commission and the Reserve Bank of India on the PIL, which also alleged that taxpayers' monies are misused by the two state governments to lure voters. There can be nothing more atrocious than the government distributing cash before the polls. This is happening every time and the burden is on the taxpayers ultimately, the lawyer representing the petitioner said. Issue notice. Returnable in four weeks, the bench said. The court took note of the PIL filed by Bhattulal Jain and ordered that it be tagged with a pending plea on the issue.

Rajasthan announces one-time payment of Rs 5,000 for registered gig workers

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday announced a one-time payment of Rs 5,000 for gig workers to purchase helmets, uniforms and other items of daily use when they register with the state government. The announcement will benefit delivery personnel working with companies such as Ola, Uber, Swiggy and Zomato, among others. "The gig workers will get Rs 5,000 as a one-time payment on registration," Gehlot said during a function to release the "Mission 2030" document in Jaipur. He also announced a 90 per cent fare exemption on Rajasthan Roadways buses for those with monthly passes. The government will also set up a ministerial employees directorate to handle all works related to ministry staff -- including promotions, transfers and postings -- in different departments, the chief minister announced.

Extra food packet for Rajasthan 'Annapurna' scheme beneficiaries

Families eligible under the 'Chief Minister Free Annapurna Food Packet Scheme' in the poll-bound Rajasthan will get an additional kit containing food items in the October-November period. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has given a financial approval of about Rs 360 crore for the same, said an official statement issued on Wednesday. According to the statement, Gehlot, during his visit to Jodhpur recently, had made this announcement in view of Diwali and other festivals. With this decision, about 1.06 crore families in the state will be able to get a kit during the period from October 15 to November 15, 2023, in addition to the regular food packets they are provided with. In another decision, the chief minister approved the opening of a 12-bed Special New Born Care Unit (SNCU) in the government hospital at Kuchaman city in the state's Didwana-Kuchaman district. Meanwhile, Rs 2.69 crore has been approved from the tourism development fund for the development of Shri Narayani Mataji Dham
