The Indian arm of French automaker Renault has begun the commercial sales of its SUV Kiger with more than 1,100 units of the vehicledeliveredto customerson the very first day,the company said on Wednesday. The all-new Renault Kiger is currently available for bookings across the company's dealership network of over 500 outlets pan-India besides through its website, Renault India said. "Today (Wednesday),more than 1,100 Renault KIGERcars were delivered to the customers across India on the first day of commencement of sales," the company said. With Kiger,Renault has successfully launched yet another breakthrough product, targeted at the core of India's automotive market," saidVenkatram Mamillapalle, Country CEO & Managing Director, Renault India Operations. Following Duster, which made SUVs accessible to a large set of people, not just in India but across the world, Kiger is all set to make SUV aspirations accessible to a whole new set of customers, he said.
"The journey back to the pre-Covid-19 growth rate will comprise strategic cooperation and resilience across the value chain," he said
The company is now gearing up to further bolster its product portfolio
Renault's site in Wuhan, the epicentre of the outbreak, was taken offline in late January. It has an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles
With base in South Africa, Renault also plans to sell the model, which comes with a one litre petrol engine and flexible seating arrangement, in other parts of the African continent.
Stating that the Kwid could drive in as the first EV in India because of its "awareness and familiarity" with the market, Cambolive said it will have to be localised.
The price for BS-VI compliant Triber has been increased between Rs 4,000 to Rs 15,000 depending on the variant, while that of Kwid has been increased by Rs 9,000 across all versions
The company had sold 7,263 units in the same month a year ago, Renault India said in a statement
Starts exports of Triber to South Africa, plans to launch three new vehicles by 2022, including a sub-4-meter SUV in H2 of next year, and an EV by 2021
The company has already sold over 20,000 units in the domestic market since its launch in August this year
Besides, it also aims to double sales and services network in the country in order to support new products and also its existing customers
It is powered by a one-litre petrol engine and comes equipped with various features including four airbags
Triber will be a sub-4-meter car with three rows and a seating capacity of up to seven
