Observing that urbanisation policies have flaws, the Supreme Court has said one of the main reasons for spurt in unauthorised constructions is the government's failure to provide people with affordable houses. Acknowledging that the right to have a roof over head is a fundamental right, the top court said there is a huge gap in the policies between the requirements of the economically weaker sections and what the government was doing at the ground level. Realty firm Tata Housing has sold plots worth Rs 650 crore in its recently launched residential project in Bengaluru. In a statement, the company on Friday said it has sold all inventories in the first phase of its project, Raagam, achieving revenue of over Rs 650 crore within one week of its launch. "With 576 plots sold and a total area of 9 lakh square feet, the project's overwhelming response reflects the robust demand for premium residential offerings in Bengaluru's real estate market," it said. The project is part of township 'Tata Carnatica' in Devanahalli, North Bengaluru. Tata Housing Development Company Ltd is a subsidiary of Tata Realty and Infrastructure Ltd. Tata Housing currently has more than 33 projects with a total development potential of over 51 million square feet spread across major cities in India, Sri Lanka and Maldives. The Delhi High Court on Thursday said coaching centres that have more than 20 students should move out of residential areas and operate from commercial spaces. A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan, while hearing a petition filed by the Coaching Federation of India, observed that students "run the risk of their lives" at coaching centres operating from residential buildings that do not have the requite safety infrastructure, such as two staircases. "There must be hundreds of students attending your classes. You should not be in a residential building. Move to a commercial building," the court orally remarked. "You cannot operate from a residential area. Where students are more than 20, you must move out," the bench, also comprising Justice Manmeet P S Arora, said. Realty firm Godrej Properties Ltd on Friday said it has acquired around 109 acres of land parcel in Nagpur and will launch residential plots. In a regulatory filing, Godrej Properties informed that the development on this land will comprise primarily plotted residential units and will offer an estimated saleable area of 2.2 million square feet. The company did not disclose the deal value and the name of the seller.
