The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has in a status report submitted to the High Court put forth several measures being undertaken to help people access toilets in the city. These measures include allowing the toilets in 172 'Indira Canteen', which was meant only for the staff, for public use. The city civic body has also proposed permitting the general public to use toilets situated in public restaurants and hotels. The Special Commissioner (Health) and Chief Health Officer (Health) have been directed to take necessary steps and pass necessary orders/circulars in this regard. The BBMP will also be inviting tenders for construction of 100 toilets exclusively for women, called 'SHE' toilets. Alternatively, the BBMP has also proposed to construct such toilets on its own and allotted a budget of Rs 25.50 crore for it in the 2024-25 Budget. Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services Department has identified over 240 rooftop restaurants in the city which have allegedly violated fire safety norms and license rules, officials said on Sunday. These include bars, hookah bars and pubs, they said. Following a massive fire that broke out at a cafe in a multi-storied commercial building in the posh Koramangala area here early this month, the fire department started inspecting various such premises to check if the fire safety norms in these establishments were complied with. "Since the major fire incident at Koramangala, we started inspecting such rooftop establishments and so far till October 26, the fire department has identified 243 premises which have violated fire related safety norms and license rules," a senior fire official said. A person has complained he found a dead rat in a dish he ordered at a restaurant in Mumbai, following which the police arrested the eatery's manager and two cooks, an official said on Wednesday. The customer, who is a bank executive, went to the restaurant located in suburban Bandra after shopping on Sunday night, the official from Bandra police station said. While having dinner, he found a dead baby rat in the chicken dish he had ordered, as per the police. The customer initially did not notice it in the curry and consumed some of it as he thought it to be a piece of chicken. Later, he got suspicious over the meat and found it to be a baby rat, the official said. When he complained to the restaurant staff, they apologised to him. The customer, however, started feeling sick after discovering the rat in the curry and he visited a doctor. Based on his complaint, the restaurant's manager and two cooks were arrested and booked under various Indian Penal Code sections, including 272 .
The Delhi government has made it mandatory for proprietors and firm partners running hotels, clubs and restaurants in the city to submit their police verification certificates by September 15, officials said on Tuesday. The step was taken by the excise department to ensure that a person holding the excise licence was of good moral character and did not have any criminal record, officials said. A recent order of the excise department stated that proprietor or owners of hotels, clubs and restaurants (HCR) as well as partners and directors in firms running such establishments will have to submit their police verifications. The direction came in the wake of the excise department being not informed about HCR licensees changing owners, directors or partners of the firms running hotel, clubs and bars. "It was a precautionary step to ensure that the retail liquor trade in Delhi was not affected by any unwanted persons in the wake of the alleged irregularities related to the excise policy .
Aditya Birla Group on Tuesday said its hospitality arm Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality (ABNAH) has acquired the rights for four iconic restaurant brands -- Hakkasan, Yauatcha, Nara Thai and CinCin. ABNAH has acquired KA Hospitality Pvt Ltd (KAH), the company that owns the home-grown brand CinCin and franchise rights of the other three global restaurant brands, for an undisclosed amount, according to a statement. "The four brands are positioned across the customer value pyramid, spanning the mid-market to premium segments," it said. With this acquisition, ABNAH has added seven restaurants to its portfolio across three cities. Hakkasan is a Michelin-starred brand serving modern Cantonese food while Yauatcha is an award-winning dim sum teahouse from London.
