Will not fight LS polls, son Deepender likely to contest: Bhupinder Hooda

Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of him contesting the Lok Sabha elections and said a discussion was on within the party about fielding his son Deepender Singh Hooda from the Rohtak seat. "There is no intention that both of us will fight. I am also the Leader of the Opposition (in Haryana) and the Assembly polls are nearing. So I don't have any intention (to fight the parliamentary election)," the former Haryana chief minister told reporters in Rohtak. Replying to a question, the senior Congress leader said discussion is on within the party about fielding Deepender Singh Hooda from the Rohtak parliamentary seat. He said that he does not have any intention to fight the Lok Sabha polls when Deepender enters the fray. The final decision on the matter will be taken by the party, he added. Haryana CM Khattar's ancestral house in Banyani to be turned into e-library

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday announced he would hand over his ancestral house in Banyani in Rohtak district to the village for setting up an e-library for children. Khattar reached his native village in the morning. Talking to reporters, the chief minister said, "I have come to my village. This village is special to me as I spent my entire childhood and did my schooling from here". "I thought my ancestral house should be of some use to the village. Today, I have made an announcement. Along with this house, in the neighbourhood, there is also a house of my cousin. The whole property is about 200 square yards which I have handed over to the village so that villagers can open an e-library and use it for other purposes for the benefit of children," Khattar said. The chief minister also took stock of developmental works being carried out in the village.

More structures razed in violence-hit Nuh, police take out flag march

Haryana authorities on Saturday razed dozens of illegal structures on the third day of the demolition drive in violence-hit Nuh district, with officials saying some of them were owned by those allegedly involved in the recent clashes. The number of people arrested has gone up to 216, while 80 people have been taken into preventive detention and 104 FIRs registered so far in connection with the communal violence that erupted when a religious procession was attacked in Nuh district by mobs on July 31, according to Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij. While the opposition pressed for a probe into alleged intelligence failure, Vij said he did not have information about any intelligence input on a possible build-up of tension. New Superintendent of Police P Narender Bijarnia said that rioters will not be spared. Stones pelted at mosque gate in Haryana's Rohtak, case registered

A case was registered against unidentified persons after some people allegedly threw stones at the gate of a mosque in Haryana's Rohtak, police said on Saturday, as Nuh and other parts of the state return to normal after communal clashes that left six dead. Police said the Rohtak incident took place Friday around 10:30 pm at Aanwal village and a case was lodged by mosque cleric Iqbal. They said security around the mosque has been tightened. They said some unidentified people allegedly pelted stones at the gate of the mosque's boundary wall. Upon getting information, Rohtak Additional Superintendent of Police Medha Bhushan reached the site Friday night with her team. Police said a case has been registered and further investigation was underway. The case was registered under relevant sections including 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) of the Indian Penal Code against unidentified people, said Inspector Ramesh Kumar, police .

Two people die in fire at Maruti Suzuki's Rohtak R&D centre

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Monday said two people working with a contract firm died in a fire incident at its research & development centre at Rohtak in Haryana. There was a fire incident on Monday afternoon in the company's Rohtak R&D centre in one of the buildings where a new lab expansion was being carried out by a third party project company, the country's largest carmaker said in a regulatory filing. The fire was brought under control and the root cause is being examined along with the investigating authorities, it added. "Unfortunately, two people working with a contract firm of the project company succumbed to the fire," the carmaker said. The company deeply mourns this loss of life and stands with the families of the deceased in this moment of grief, it added. There have been no other injuries, the auto major stated. This incident does not affect the production or operations of the company, MSI noted.
