India's overall exports of goods and services in 2024 has estimated to cross USD 814 billion, an increase of 5.58 per cent, according to a report by economic think tank Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI). In 2023, the country's merchandise and services exports stood at USD 768.5 billion. This year, the report estimated that in 2024, merchandise exports are expected to reach USD 441.5 billion, showing a modest 2.34 per cent increase over USD 431.4 billion in the previous year. In contrast, the services exports are estimated to grow by 10.31 per cent to USD 372.3 billion, up from USD 337.5 billion in 2023. "India's total exports, encompassing merchandise and services, are projected to exceed USD 814 billion in 2024, reflecting a 5.58 per cent growth compared to USD 768.5 billion in 2023," it said. India's total exports of software services, including services delivered by foreign affiliates of Indian companies, increased to USD 205.2 billion during 2023-24 from USD 200.6 billion in the previous fiscal, according to a Reserve Bank survey. India's exports of software services (excluding their sales through overseas commercial presence) increased by 2.8 per cent during 2023-24 to USD 190.7 billion, according to the data related to the 2023-24 round of RBI annual survey on computer software and information technology enabled-services (ITES) exports. The US was the major software export destination with a 54 per cent share, followed by Europe (31 per cent share), where the United Kingdom was a major destination country, according to the data. India's services exports declined 1.3 per cent in March to USD 30 billion while imports fell by 2.1 per cent to USD 16.61 billion, showed Reserve Bank data released on Thursday. As per RBI's data on India's international trade in services, the trade surplus during March 2024 was USD 13.4 billion. Both exports and imports of services were in positive zone in the preceding two months. According to the commerce ministry data, the services export during fiscal 2023-24 is estimated at USD 339.62 billion and imports at USD 177.56 billion. The trade surplus or difference between exports and imports works out to be USD 162 billion during the year. Despite persistent global challenges, overall exports (merchandise and services) are estimated to reach USD 776.68 billion in 2023-24 as compared to USD 776.40 billion in 2022-23.
