Kerala CM Vijayan condoles demise of socialist leader Sharad Yadav

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday described veteran politician Sharad Yadav as a socialist icon of the country, and said the latter's demise was a great loss to Indian politics. Yadav died at a private hospital in Gurugram on Thursday. He was 75. "Sharad Yadav was an icon of socialist politics, who stood firm for democratic values. His passing is a great loss to Indian politics. Heartfelt condolences to his family and supporters," the Chief Minister tweeted.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar on Friday said the demise of former Union minister Sharad Yadav was an irreparable loss to Indian politics. Yadav died on Thursday at a Gurugram Hospital. "The demise of former JDU President, former Union Minister, senior socialist leader Mr. Sharad Yadav is an irreparable loss to Indian politics," Pawar tweeted. "Heartfelt condolences to his family and followers on his passing away. May his soul rest in peace," the NCP chief added.

Opposition asks Sharad Yadav to lead effort to save composite culture

New Delhi, 17 AugustEmboldened by the impressive show of strength at Thursday's 'save our composite culture' conference here, Opposition leaders on Thursday appealed to rebel Janata Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav to lead the campaign across India.Several top Opposition leaders of 15 parties attended the five-hour long conference. The Opposition plan is to keep it a non-political effort under Yadav's leadership. Yadav, who emerged as a rallying figure, is also slated to visit Patna on Saturday, the day that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is to chair JD (U)'s national executive. The meeting is to pass a resolution to officially join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance.
