Digvijaya accuses MP of diverting public funds for BJP's 'election agenda'

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Wednesday alleged that the Madhya Pradesh government was diverting public funds for the "election agenda" of the ruling BJP, and accused officials of damaging the already weak financial condition of the state through manipulation of figures. He also warned that if the Congress comes to power in the state after the upcoming assembly polls, strict action will be taken against the erring officials irrespective of their seniority. Heavy rains in MP: Will call Army if required for flood relief ops, says CM

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said the Army and Air Force will be called in if required for flood relief operations amid heavy rains in the state. He held a virtual meeting with his officials at 1:30am and gave instructions to deal with the situation. Chouhan said he reviewed the situation caused by heavy rains in Khargone, Barwani, Dhar, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Alirajpur and Indore and spoke to officials of these districts. The situation is under control but the people are on alert and the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) and NDRF are working in these areas, while the flow in water bodies as well as rain has reduced, he said. "The water has started receding in the affected areas. Our efforts are to keep the people safe. If required, the army and Air Force would also be called in," Chouhan said.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday said a drought-like situation and power crisis have emerged in Madhya Pradesh due to no rains last month and he appealed to people to pray for good showers in the state. The state government is making efforts to purchase power from other states, but such a situation is prevailing in the entire country, Chouhan told reporters in Ujjain after offering prayers at the Mahakaleshwar temple. The assembly elections in the state are due this year-end. The month of August has almost been dry, so a drought situation is arising in Madhya Pradesh now. Crops are in danger. MP govt to provide food to labourers through mobile kitchens: CM Chouhan

The Madhya Pradesh government will open mobile kitchens where labourers can buy food at an affordable rate, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Saturday as he reiterated that meals are being provided at Rs 5 under the Deendayal Rasoi Yojana (DRY). Chouhan launched the third phase of DRY under which kitchens are opened in the limits of 66 municipal councils in the state, where elections are due this year-end. So far, meals have been provided to more than 2.25 crore people through these 166 kitchens. Chouhan reiterated meals (food plate or thali) are being provided at Rs 5 instead of earlier Rs 10 under this scheme. "Mobile kitchens will soon be opened in urban areas to provide meals at affordable rates to labourers near their workplaces. All urban bodies of the state will be covered under this scheme," the chief minister said. He said kitchens will be opened in areas under 90 Nagar Panchayats with more than 20,000 population.
