India to push for global standards in upcoming technologies, says Scindia

India will push for creation of global standards to ensure the upcoming technologies serve as instruments of growth and empowerment, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said. The Union minister was addressing the assemblage during the closing ceremony of the International Telecommunication Union-World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (WTSA) 2024 here on Thursday. The minister said there is a need to harness technology so that it acts as a catalyst for positive change. "We will continue to champion international collaboration. NCCD revising cold chain guidelines, to serve as roadmap for govt bodies

The National Centre for Cold-Chain Development (NCCD) is revising technical standards and minimum guidelines for cold-chain components which will serve as a road-map for all Central and state government bodies setting up cold chain facilities nationwide, its CEO Asheesh Fotedar said on Wednesday. He was referring to initiatives undertaken by the NCCD, which comes under the administrative control of the Ministry of Agriculture. In addition to the guidelines, NCCD is developing a mobile application to digitise data related to cold chain components. This is expected to increase capacity utilisation, reduce fuel costs, and minimise the carbon footprint. The application will also capture relevant logistic data for policymaking and analytics, Fotedar said at a Ficci conference. HC puts in abeyance CCPA order asking Amazon to recall pressure cookers

The Delhi High Court Tuesday kept in abeyance an order of the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) asking US-based e-commerce giant Amazon to recall sold domestic pressure cookers that did not meet quality standards. The high court, however, asked Amazon to deposit within a week Rs one lakh penalty imposed on Amazon by CCPA for selling cookers, which violate mandatory standards, on its platform. Justice Yashwant Varma said Amazon shall be liable to notify buyers of all these 2,265 pressure cookers that these items do not meet the required quality standards. The high court said the issues raised in the petition require consideration and till the next date of hearing, while the petitioner (Amazon) shall be liable to notify buyers of 2,265 pressure cookers, the CCPA order on recall of products and reimbursement of prices to buyers is placed in abeyance.
