'Regional languages content on OTT platforms growing significantly'

OTT platforms are growing significantly in various regional languages across India, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju said on Wednesday. In his keynote address at India Digital Summit (IDS) 2024, here, Jaju pointed out that there were over 60 OTT platforms in India, of which 30 per cent OTT originals were operating in regional languages. The number is expected to go up to 50 per cent this year. He also said that the media and entertainment sector was a huge sector and played a pivotal role in the Indian economy. "It's been growing phenomenally at a rate of 20 per cent and is approximately Rs 2 lakh crore. In that, the digital media segment is the second largest sub-segment, and has been showing a growth of approximately 30 per cent -- around Rs 60,000 crores -- and the film segment has a 25 per cent growth rate," he said. Prime Video, Sony Pictures launch add-on service Stream at Rs 399

Prime Video has entered a distribution agreement with Sony Pictures Television (SPT), a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), to launch a add-on subscription on the streamer for viewers in India. Sony Pictures Stream will offer SPE's movies and show on Prime Video Channels and its subscribers for an add-on introductory annual subscription of Rs 399. Zee5 Global aims to double US subscriber base to 2 million in one year

Over The Top (OTT) content platform Zee5 Global is aiming to double its active subscriber base to 2 million in a year, a top official has said. The platform has witnessed a growing appetite for Indian films like 'The Kashmir Files' by the more discerning diasporic audience, its Chief Business Officer Archana Anand told PTI. The controversial film directed by Vivek Agnihotri has taken the engagement on the platform through the roof, she said, adding that the Telugu hit RRR also helped, with users organising watch parties for their non-South Asian friends. Asked for reasons why the audience loves content like the one in 'The Kashmir Files', termed as propaganda by some, Anand said there is "strong nationalistic feeling" among the diaspora, and added that the story of disenfranchised people makes a connect with the audiences. Zee5 Global launched add-ons in the US, wherein it will be partnering with at least a dozen platforms focused on serving south Asian audiences to offer a wider .
