M&M chief Anish Shah supports govt incentives to promote sustainability

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd Managing Director and CEO Anish Shah on Thursday supported incentives provided to companies by the government for promoting ESG (environmental, social and governance) programmes. Speaking at the annual general meeting of the Indo Canadian Business Chamber, Shah also said climate change should not be seen as a potential disaster but "think of it as an opportunity". "The biggest factor in these programs (ESG) is new technologies because the new technologies are resulting in quantum changes in the carbon footprint," he said when asked if there should be some sort of incentive by the government to promote or give a push to ECG programmes. Citing the examples of electric vehicles (EVs) and solar energy, Shah said, "These are technologies that are creating quantum changes. So, that's why incentives are essential. Michelin, IIT Bombay join hands for sustainable mobility research

French tyre major Michelin on Tuesday said it has joined hands with IIT Bombay-Monash Research Academy for next generation sustainable mobility research. India inks MoU with IEA for global energy security, sustainability

India on Wednesday inked a strategic partnership agreement with the International Energy Agency (IEA) to strengthen cooperation in global energy security, stability and sustainability. This partnership will lead to an extensive exchange of knowledge and would be a stepping stone towards India becoming a full member of IEA, a power ministry statement said. "The Framework for Strategic Partnership between the IEA members and the Government of India was signed on 27th January, 2021 to strengthen mutual trust and cooperation & enhance global energy security, stability and sustainability," it said. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Power Secretary Sanjiv Nandan Sahai and IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol. "The contents of the strategic partnership will be jointly decided by IEA members and India, including a phased increase in benefits and responsibilities for India as an IEA strategic partner, and building on existing areas of work within Association and the Clean .

HDFC's green housing retail loans cross Rs 14,000 cr across 310 buildings

The largest pureplay mortgage player HDFC, which on Wednesday signed a pact with the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), said its green housing retail loan book has crossed the Rs 14,000-crore-mark across 310 certified green buildings. The mortgage lender further said as much as 75 per cent of its lease rental discounting portfolio has green ratings. As of December 23, 2020, we have disbursed over 14,000 crore of retails loans to home buyers in 310 certified green building projects, HDFC told a webinar announcing the tie-up with the IGBC to promote green housing and create awareness about and promote financing of green buildings.
