US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti on Monday made a strong pitch for "deeper conversations" between New Delhi and Washington on a regulatory framework on artificial intelligence, saying it could be an example of "multiplicative relationship" between the two democracies. In an interactive session organised by Observer Research Foundation, Garcetti stressed on the need to "get in front" of artificial intelligence (AI) to avoid facing catastrophic consequences. He made it clear that while there had been deep conversations on the issue with India, there was no formal proposal yet from either side. Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) has introduced a new mobile-based application for pilgrims intending to undertake the annual pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, an official said on Tuesday. "The app is designed and developed by the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeITY)," a SASB spokesperson said. The app provides important information to facilitate the planning of the 'yatra', lists facilities available in the shrine area, weather forecast etc., he said. It incorporates special features like SOS call alert system, live tracking of 'yatris', push notifications, the spokesperson added. "Yatris can login using their yatra permit form number and may allow the app to access the device's location to enable their live tracking. In a bid to bring transparency in its functioning, the Mumbai civic body has added a new feature in its mobile application wherein actual photographs of nullahs before and after carrying desilting work will be posted with timelines. A BMC official said in the case of any mismatch between actual and posted photographs of nullahs, citizens can raise complaints by clicking photos through their mobile phones and uploading them on the app. "The photographs will be seen by officers concerned for further action. Besides, complainants will be informed about the action taken by authorities," he said. Over one lakh people have so far downloaded the mobile application of the BMC.
Photo-messaging app Snapchat Tuesday said the platform is "private by design" and unlike other social media outlets, its focus is on providing a medium for communication between a close group of friends. Snap Head of India Market Development Durgesh Kaushik told PTI that social media seems to now centre around adding people to friend lists and getting likes. "The way we are positioning ourselves is as a communication platform.
