Keeping in mind the safety of women, students of an engineering college in Moradabad claim to have invented a sandal-drone security system equipped with GPS.The project, which they have named 'flying cop and women defence system', works on electric shock and GPS technology to send a distress signal and trigger a drone movement. One of the students involved in the project, Diwakar Sharma, told ANI, "In India, rape and sexual assaults is a big problem. Hence we have made use of a sandal and drone to create a safety system. The sandal is equipped with a panic button which can be triggered with a mild press during the time of need. With the press of that button, the sandal will generate a shock system which she can use to hit her assaulter."He also shared details of how it will be connected with the drone and nearby police station. "It will send the location of the girl to her family and police with a message. It will also send a signal to a specially designed drone. Once a distress signal

Move over pop-out, the notch-based selfie camera on smartphones, Oppo has teased an all-new way of taking selfies - through an under-display camera. In a tweet, Oppo teased what it calls the "perfect, notchless smartphone screen experience" in action. In the short clip, the display has no notch on the top, and the front camera is not visible either. The only way to identify the sensor is by launching the camera app.Similar to an under-display fingerprint sensor, the under-display camera would eliminate the need for a dedicated slot or notch on the device. However, it may lead to a slightly thicker form factor.

Dating app Tinder is now required to provide user data to Russian intelligence agencies, the country's communications regulator said Monday. The app was included on a new list of online services operating in Russia that are required to provide user data on demand to Russian authorities, including the FSB security agency. Russia adopted a flurry of legislation in recent years tightening control over online activity. Among other things, Internet companies are required to store six months' worth of user data and be ready to hand them over to authorities. The communications regulator said Monday that Tinder had shared with them information about the company and that it is now on the list of online apps and websites that are expected to cooperate with the FSB. Russian authorities last year issued an order to ban messaging app Telegram after it refused to provide the user data as required by the Russian law. Tinder was not immediately available for comment.

Ensuring users remain in control of their data is a key focus area for Facebook that is working on allowing users to seamlessly connect with others across its platforms like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, according to Facebook Chief Technology Officer Mike Schroepfer. At its annual developers meet 'F8', Facebook had announced that it is working on bringing in interoperability across the three messaging platforms while ensuring that the communication is end-to-end encrypted. "I want to be able to reach my friends (across these platforms) but I want to be in control (of the data)...And getting that right is the thing we are working on," Schroepfer told PTI. Facebook has started these discussions early so that it can engage with governments and safety experts globally on aspects like encryption and safety while the design process is on, he added. "If there are choices to make, we can make them together. This (user data safety) is a top concern for how we're building our products," he
Chinese smartphone manufacturer OPPO is reportedly working on an under-display camera technology as its Vice President Brian Shen on Monday posted a short video clip on Weibo of what appears to be a notch-free prototype.
Scientists have discovered about 1,800 new supernovae, or exploding stars, that may help measure how fast the universe is expanding. The researchers from Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU) and University of Tokyo in Japan combined data from one of the world's most powerful digital cameras and a telescope capable of capturing a wider shot of the night sky compared to other big telescopes. The finding includes 58 Type Ia supernovae located eight billion light years away. Supernova classed as Type Ia are useful because their constant maximum brightness allows researchers to calculate how far the star is from Earth. This is particularly useful for researchers who want to measure the expansion of the Universe. A supernova is the name given to an exploding star that has reached the end of its life. The star often becomes as bright as its host galaxy, shining one billion times brighter than the Sun for anytime between a month to six months before ...
Google apps like YouTube, Gmail and Nest along with photo-messaging app Snapchat and other web services suffered major outages across the US and some parts of Europe.
Scientists have created a flexible material that can harvest energy from body movements to power wearable devices and sensors. Researchers from Rice University in the US adapted laser-induced graphene (LIG) into small, metal-free devices that generate electricity. Like rubbing a balloon on hair, putting LIG composites in contact with other surfaces produces static electricity that can be used to power devices, they said. According to the research published in the journal ACS Nano, the triboelectric effect helps materials gather a charge through contact. When they are put together and then pulled apart, surface charges build up that can be channelled toward power generation. In experiments, the researchers connected a folded strip of LIG to a string of light-emitting diodes and found that tapping the strip produced enough energy to make them flash. A larger piece of LIG embedded within a flip-flop let a wearer generate energy with every step, as the graphene composite's repeated ...
