An IIT post-graduate was arrested from Rajasthan for running a fake website named 'Pradhan Mantri Free Laptop distribution Scheme-2019' with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's picture to earn money from website traffic as well as get personal data of visitors to misuse, a police officer said on Sunday.
An IIT postgraduate was held for allegedly running a fake website carrying pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and duping people in the name of "Free Laptop Government Scheme on the Occasion of Re-election of New Government", police said Sunday. Rakesh Jangid (23), IIT postgraduate of 2019 batch, was arrested from his hometown Pundlota in Rajasthan's Nagaur district, they said. Over 15 lakh people were exposed to the con job within two days. The fake website offering the bogus scheme was promoted using instant messaging apps and became viral on Whatsapp, police said. According to the police, the accused used fake promotional multimedia message using 'Make in India' logo and picture of the prime minister on the website to lure people to register themselves for getting free laptops. Delhi Police Cyber Cell have arrested one man, named Rakesh, who is an IIT post graduate, for making a fake website which claimed that two crore laptops will be distributed by the central government after the formation of the new government.CyPAD, high-tech facility of the Special Cell of Delhi Police, received information that someone had created and hosted a website by the domain name "www.modi-laptop.wishguruji.com" which was promising distribution of millions of free laptops on the occasion of the formation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new government. A fake, promotional multimedia message using 'Make in India' logo was posted on the website to lure the website visitors to register themselves for getting the free laptop, the police said.CyPAD registered a criminal case under applicable sections of IT Act and an investigation was taken up using technical assistance from labs of CyPAD. Seven persons have been arrested after more than 300 stolen mobile phones worth Rs 60 lakh were seized from them, police said Sunday. The accused have been identified as Naresh Kumar (30), Mukesh Kumar (38), Naresh Kumar (27), Rajan (28), Ram Singh (58), Gopal Pathak (31) and Rohit (23), they said. According to police, the gang worked in a systematic manner. After stealing mobile phones, they used to hand them over to a middle man who then handed these phones to another person to be sent to Nepal. Microsoft has asked users to update their systems to prevent a vulnerability that is similar to the deadly WannaCry malware from 2017.In its official blog, Microsoft revealed that it released fixes for the critical Remote Code Execution vulnerability - CVE-2019-0708, in Remote Desktop Services on May 14.
