Nobel-winning physicist Murray Gell-Man dies at 89
Murray Gell-Mann, the Nobel Prize-winning physicist who brought order to the universe by helping discover and classify subatomic particles, has died at the age of 89. Gell-Mann died Friday at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His death was confirmed by the Santa Fe Institute, where he held the title of distinguished fellow, and the California Institute of Technology, where he taught for decades. The cause of death was not disclosed. Gell-Mann transformed physics by devising a method for sorting subatomic particles into simple groups of eight based on electric charge, spin and other characteristics. He also developed the theory of "quarks," indivisible components of matter that make up protons, neutrons and other particles. Pakistan on Sunday launched its first ever moon-sighting website in a bid to end decades-old controversy over start of the key lunar months that decides the beginning of the holy month of Ramazan and Eid festivals. The inaugural of the website "pakmoonsighting.pk" came two weeks after Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry made an announcement regarding the preparation of a scientific lunar calendar. An Indian teenaged boy based in Dubai has topped the list of 100 regional finalists for a prestigious international science fair contest for his project to minimise power wastage and make street lights smarter, according to a media report. Shaamil Karim, a grade 11 student of the Indian High School in Dubai, was selected for the Google Science Fair global contest from thousands of entries, the Gulf News reported on Saturday. Google announced a slew of changes to its Search engine earlier this week. One of the changes makes it easier for users to place food orders for home delivery.As explained on the official blog, you can now use Google Search, Maps, or Assistant to order food from services such as DoorDash, Postmates, Delivery.com, Slice, ChowNow, and more. All you need to do is look for the Order Online button in Search and Maps, to easily order your favourite dish.Alternatively, instruct Google Assistant to order from participating restaurants. You can also reorder your favourite meal from some of the restaurants by instructing the Assistant to reorder from the list of past orders. The feature is currently limited to users in the US.
