Lesbian couple may live together, parents not to 'interfere': Andhra HC

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has upheld the right of a lesbian couple to live together, affirming their freedom to choose partners. A bench comprising Justices R Raghunandan Rao and K Maheswara Rao was hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Kavitha (name changed), one of the women, alleging that her partner Lalitha (name changed) was detained by her father against her will and kept her at his residence in Narsipatnam. The Court on Tuesday further directed the parents of Lalitha not to interfere with the relationship of the couple, asserting that their daughter is a major and can make her own decisions. The couple has been "living together" for the past one year in Vijayawada. Based on a missing complaint by Kavitha earlier, police traced Laitha at her father's home, and rescued her. The Telangana High Court on Friday granted interim bail to actor Allu Arjun, who was arrested earlier in the day by the city police in connection with the death of a woman during the screening of his movie 'Pushpa 2' here last week. The HC order came shortly after the actor was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days by a local court. Arjun was sent to the jail at Chanchalguda here following the remand, amid tight security arrangements.

YS Jagan Mohan Reddy files plea in HC over restoration of security cover

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking restoration of the security cover to him to the level it existed till June 3. In his petition, the former CM and YSRCP chief said his security cover has been reduced to 59 personnel without any intimation from the TDP-led government in the state. Considering the sensitive nature of his position and the "ongoing political environment" in the state, Reddy highlighted that the reduction in security cover raises "significant concerns about his safety", a YSRCP press release quoting him said. According to Reddy, reduction of security within a month after the announcement of the election results is in "violation of all principles of natural justice." Further, he said though the highest protection category of Z+ security was not downgraded on paper, the number of security personnel had been drastically cut and added that only two personnel were guarding him at any point of .

SIT will continue to probe TRS MLAs poaching case, says Telangana HC

The Telangana High Court on Tuesday said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to investigate the TRS MLAs poaching case will continue to probe. While disposing of a petition by the BJP seeking a CBI probe into the whole episode, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice C V Bhaskar Reddy said there shall be no selective leakage of investigation or materials gathered during inquiry. The bench further said it is the responsibility of the head of the SIT- C V Anand (Hyderabad Police Commissioner) to ensure that the same is scrupulously followed. The TRS government on November 9 ordered setting up a seven- member special investigation team (SIT) to probe into the case relating to alleged poaching of the ruling party MLAs.
