Telangana's total liabilities stood at Rs 3.22 trn by 2021-22: CAG report

Telangana's total liabilities including public debt stood at Rs 3,21,611 crore by the end of the last financial year even as the guarantees provided by the state government was Rs 1,35, 283 crore, according to a CAG report placed in the Assembly on Sunday. The Comptroller and Auditor General report said the total debt includes Rs 6,949 crore, which was passed on as back-to-back loans by the Centre in lieu of shortfall in GST compensation, during 2021-22. "Total outstanding guarantees as on 31 March, 2022 were Rs 1,35,283 crore. Government of Telangana amended the FRBM Act in 2020, duly raising the limit of guarantees that it can provide to various institutions to 200 per cent of total revenue receipts of the previous year," it said. The CAG report further said the public debt and other liabilities showed an increase of Rs 43,593 crore (16 per cent) in 2021-22 over the previous year. The public accounts watchdog pegged the said capital expenditure during 2021-22 at Rs 28,874 crore .

Telangana Guv seeks clarity on bill to absorb RTC staff as govt employees

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday sought clarifications from the BRS government on a draft bill meant for absorption of state Road Transport Corporation employees into government service. Amid concerns expressed by the TSRTC staff that the bill should be passed in the ongoing assembly session, she assured them of safeguarding their interests. The state government recently decided to recognise the employees of the state-run corporation as government staff and proposed to table the bill in the assembly. The Raj Bhavan on Friday had said it received the draft bill on August 2, and the Governor needed some more time to examine it. On Saturday morning, sections of RTC employees held a strike for a couple of hours and took out a demonstration to the Raj Bhavan demanding the Governor permit the state government to introduce the bill in the assembly. KCR demands Bharat Ratna for social reformer Sathe, says will write to PM

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday said he will write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to confer Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian award, on noted Marathi poet and social reformer Annabhau Sathe. The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party chief, who visited Sathe's memorial at Wategaon in Sangli district of Maharashtra earlier in the day, said the Telangana government will be writing to the Centre on the issue. Telangana Cabinet approves Rs 60K cr plan for expansion of Hyderabad metro

The Telangana Cabinet on Monday decided to expand the metro rail network in Hyderabad with about Rs 60,000 crore in the next three-four years and, among other decisions, to provide ex-gratia to the kin of 40 people who died during the recent heavy rains in the state. In another key decision, the cabinet meeting, presided over by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, decided to recognise the over-43,000 employees of the state-run Road Transport Corporation (RTC) as government staff. Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, State Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao said it has been decided to expand metro rail on a large scale to strengthen public transport in Hyderabad. Central teams to visit Telangana today to assess damage due to heavy rains

An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) will visit Telangana from Monday to assess the damage caused by floods in the state following the recent heavy rains, Union Minister of Tourism G Kishan Reddy said. Addressing a press conference, he slammed the BRS Government in the state, saying that the dispensation is "ignorant" of the gravity of the situation and suggested it needs to spend the funds, also contributed by the Centre amounting to Rs 900 crore, which are lying with it under State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) towards relief measures. Central team to visit Telangana from Monday, to take stock of damage

An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) will visit Telangana on July 31 to assess the damage caused by floods in the state following the recent heavy rains. At least 16 people lost their lives in various rain-related incidents due to the downpour that lashed Telangana during the past week, officials said. As rains subsided, relief and rescue work gained momentum in flood-affected areas of Telangana on Saturday. Torrential rains that pounded the state for the last one week have claimed the lives of at least 16 people. Waterlogging continued in parts of Warangal despite rainfall subsiding. Heavy rains continue to lash Telangana, govt puts administration on alert

Telangana Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari on Thursday said the administration has been put on alert as heavy rains continued to lash the state. The downpour led to inundation of low-lying areas and damage to roads at several places in the state with rivulets and other water bodies overflowing.
