Indian telecom gearmaker HFCL to set up optical fibre cable plant in Poland

Indian telecom gear maker HFCL has announced a strategic expansion into Europe with the setting up of an optical fibre cable manufacturing plant in Poland. In a release, HFCL said the move marks a milestone in the company's global expansion strategy, aimed at addressing the increasing demand for OFC in European markets such as the UK, Germany, Belgium, France, Poland, among others. HFCL's manufacturing unit in Poland will begin with a capacity of 3.25 million fibre km (fkm) and scalable up to 7 million fkm, with an initial capital outlay of up to Rs 144 crore, thus fulfilling the increasing OFC demand. "This strategic move will not only enhance HFCL's agility but also reduce transit times by approximately six weeks, thereby enabling increase in order fulfilment capacity," it said. Broadband India Forum (BIF) on Wednesday said the new telecom bill brings clarity on a slew of important issues facing the sector, including the regulator's power and functions, protection and duties of telecom users, and exclusion of OTTs from the purview of telecom regulations. Indus Towers Q2 results: Net profit increases 49% to Rs 1,295 cr

Telecom infrastructure company Indus Towers on Wednesday posted a 49 per cent increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,295 crore in the September quarter. The company had posted net profit of Rs 872 crore in the year-ago period. The consolidated revenue of Indus Towers declined 10 per cent to Rs 7,133 crore during the second quarter of the current fiscal from Rs 7,967 crore a year ago. "The revenue for second quarter included... Rs 1,076 crore from deferred recognition of revenues arising from the settlement of old dues with customers. The quarter also had an impact of Rs 1,771 crore due to provision for doubtful debt," the company said in a statement. Nokia achieves 7 mn telecom gear production milestone at Chennai plant

Finnish telecom company Nokia on Thursday said its Chennai plant has achieved the production milestone of 7 million telecom network gear units. The company started the plant 15 years ago and is one of the largest factories of Nokia globally. "Nokia's factory in Chennai has reached a significant production milestone by reaching seven million telecom units. The factory has completed fifteen years of operation this year and is playing a key role in boosting telecom equipment manufacturing in the country," Nokia said. The factory manufactures 5G New Radio (5G NR), 5G massive MIMO products, 4G or the LTE radios as well as fiber broadband equipment among others.
