Rain, thunderstorm in parts of Rajasthan due to western disturbance

Rain and thunderstorms were witnessed in many areas of Rajasthan due to the impact of a western disturbance during the last 24 hours, the local weather office said on Saturday. During this, Gogunda (Udaipur) recorded a maximum rainfall of 75 mm, followed by 34 mm in Ajmer's Bhinay, 18 mm in Buhana of Jhunjhunu and Chhoti Sadri of Pratapgarh and 15 mm in Pugal of Bikaner, it said. Similarly, several other districts including Bikaner, Dausa, Alwar, Tonk, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh and Churu and Sikar also recorded rainfall, the weather departments said as it predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in some parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bharatpur, Kota and Jodhpur divisions on Saturday also. Thunderstorm activities are likely to continue till May 14, due to which the maximum temperature may fall in most parts.

Delhi witnesses pleasant morning; light rain, thundershowers likely

Delhiites woke up to a pleasant windy and cloudy morning on Thursday as the weather office predicted light rain and thundershowers during the day. Rains are likely to further improve the air quality index (AQI) which according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data was in the moderate category with index value measured at 134 at 8 am on Thursday. According to CPCB's 24 hour AQI bulletin at 4 pm on Wednesday, the air quality was in the poor category with index value at 211. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe. With the air quality in Delhi dropping to the 'poor' level on Wednesday, authorities in the National Capital Region have been asked to strictly implement measures under the first stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Delhi: Showers, thunder ends hot day; no heatwave predicted for a week

A heatwave seared Delhi on Friday before thundershowers and gusty winds brought some respite towards the evening. Delhi's primary weather station, Safdarjung Observatory, recorded a maximum temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal. It had logged a high of 45.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the highest so far this year. The mercury jumped to 47.5 degrees Celsius at Najafgarh in southwest Delhi and 47.1 degrees Celsius at Mungeshpur in the northwestern parts of the city. The weather stations at Pitampura, Sports Complex, Jafarpur, Ridge and Palam saw the mercury leaping to 47 degrees Celsius, 46.2 degrees Celsius, 46.1 degrees Celsius, 46 degrees Celsius, 45.7 degrees Celsius and 45.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
