Assam govt launches new policy to boost responsible tourism in state

The Assam government launched a new tourism policy here on Monday to encourage responsible tourism and support the private sector in the state. The mission of the policy is "to create a policy framework and strategic roadmap in collaboration with central ministries, various state government departments, local communities and tourism stakeholders to improve the tourism sector in Assam, to support the private sector engaged in tourism in the state, and to strengthen tourism support segments and its sub-sectors", a statement said. The policy, prepared after extensive consultations with the World Bank, incorporated the views of stakeholders and industry experts. "The new Assam Tourism Policy 2022 has been laid out at an opportune time when the state stands at the threshold of new beginnings. Tourism sector bounced back with 'great resilience' after pandemic: Govt

The tourism sector was hugely impacted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it has "bounced back" from various adversities and crises with "great resilience," a senior official of the Indian government has said. Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Rakesh Verma, part of the Indian delegation that is taking part in the three-day World Travel Market (WTM) in London, also said the delegation is showcasing varied tourism offerings of India to the global tourism industry stakeholders such as tour operators, travel agents and media, among others. India is also being promoted as a "safe tourist destination post-COVID-19", at the WTM, the ministry said in a statement issued on Wednesday. Kerala Tourism bags Responsible Tourism Global award in London travel mart

The Kerala Tourism has bagged the prestigious Responsible Tourism Global award at the World Travel Mart held in London. State Tourism Minister P A Mohammed Riyas received the award on behalf of the department at London and said it was an encouragement for the Kerala tourism sector. The award was given for the STREET project implemented by the Responsible Tourism Mission under the Kerala Government. "I would like to share with you with utmost pride that the state Responsible Tourism and the Tourism Department has won the award for the water STREET project. Street is the acronym for Sustainable, Tangible, Responsible, Experiential, Ethnic, Tourism hubs and this was implemented from March 31, this year," Riyas said in a video message on Tuesday. Moscow aims pre-Covid level footfall from India by end of 2023: Official

Over 13,000 Indians visited Moscow during the first half of 2022 and the footfall is expected to reach pre-Covid levels by 2023 end, despite the ongoing war in the region, Moscow City Tourism Committee said on Tuesday. This year during the first six months, Moscow hosted 13.3 thousand Indians and it is expected that the pre-pandemic figures will be reached by the end of 2023, Moscow City Tourism Committee said in a statement. In 2021, when the borders opened after the pandemic, it was noted that 48 per cent of Indian travellers visited Moscow. According to the Federal Agency for Tourism, in 2021, the tourist flow from India to Moscow has recovered by 40 per cent compared to the pre-pandemic 2019. Sri Lanka's Tourism Minister Harin Fernando on Saturday said as things get back to normal after the recent political crisis in the island nation, the government aims to receive at least 10 lakh tourists this year, mostly from India.
