Tata Steel Foundation, KGA ink MoU to promote tribal art, music, culture

To promote tribal art, music and culture a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) and Mumbai-based Kala Ghoda Association (KGA) here on Saturday. The MoU was signed on the fourth day of the five-day pan India tribal conclave 'Samvaad'. It will allow tribals to participate in the Kala Ghoda Art Festival, which has been taking place in South Mumbai, Kala Ghoda Fort for the last 20 years. Chief Executive Officer of Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) Sourav Roy said "We have joined hands with KGA to take tribal art, music, and culture to South Mumbai. We are thankful to the KGA for giving us a space to put up installation, a stage for Rhythms of the Earth (ROTE) and an opportunity for tribal artisans to market their creativity." Tribal artworks gifted to leaders of different countries by PM Modi

Artworks associated with tribal art and craft from different regions of India were the gifts chosen by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the leaders of various countries he has met during his three-nation tour. Official sources said Dokra art was given to the leaders of Australia, Brazil, Cook Islands and Tonga, noting that one of the earliest expressions of this ancient art is the dancing girl artefact found from Mohenjo-Daro and Harappan excavations. The common themes of Dokra art revolve around figurines of Hindu gods, goddesses and different animals. Arjun Munda to launch scheme to promote tribal products from northeast

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda will on April 18 launch a scheme to promote tribal products from the northeastern region of the country, an official statement said on Monday. The scheme -- 'Marketing and Logistics Development for Promotion of Tribal Products from North-Eastern Region (PTP-NER)' -- aims to enhance livelihood opportunities for tribal artisans in the region, the statement issued by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs said. The PTP-NER scheme will focus on increasing efficiency in procurement, logistics and marketing of tribal products from the northeastern states of India, it said. It aims to provide backward and forward linkages through incubation support, aggregation, skill and entrepreneurship development, sourcing and procurement, marketing, transportation and publicity to tribal artisans in the region. The government is taking steps to enhance production and marketing of forest produce of tribal communities and engaging with e-commerce players like Amazon and Flipkart to push their sales, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Wednesday. He also said that the tribal community will be the major beneficiary of the emphasis of the National Education Policy on the use of mother tongue or local language as the medium. Briefing media about the steps being taken by the government for the welfare of tribals, the minister said that financial allocations under centrally sponsored schemes have been increased significantly.
