T'gana polls: BRS pins hopes on civic infra, job creation to woo voters

Enhanced civic infrastructure, job creation and "well maintained" law and order, among others, in Hyderabad and adjoining areas which constitute 24 segments in the 119 member-assembly in Telangana, are some of the key issues being highlighted by the ruling BRS party during its poll campaign in the run up to the upcoming elections. There are 15 seats in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits with 45.37 lakh voters, while nine are located in the adjoining parts of the city with over 50 lakh electors. The BRS won a majority of the seats in the 2018 assembly polls while Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM won seven seats. AIMIM is said to have strongholds in the constituencies located in the southern part of the city. Goshamahal is the only seat won by the BJP in the 2018 polls. T Raja Singh represents the segment. The higher concentration of voters, with nearly 30 per cent of the total 3.26 crore, forces all political parties to focus more on various rallies, mostly roadshows, pad

Telangana farmers wait for red gram board a year after receiving GI tag

It's been almost a year now since a local variety of tur dal (red gram) grown in the Tandur assembly segment, received the geographical indication (GI) tag. However, many farmers are still unaware of its significance, leaving aside taking advantage of it in the absence of a board which the ruling BRS (then TRS) promised during the 2014 poll campaign. The famous 'Tandur red gram' is the 16th GI product from Telangana. The Geographical Indication tag was granted in December 2022 to the Yalal Farmers Producers Company Ltd, which had applied for 'Tandur red gram' with the support of Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU). It is the first agricultural commodity in the state to get the GI tag. GI tag is a status given to a product belonging exclusively to a particular area. The quality, reputation and any other characteristics of that particular product is generally attributed to the geographical origin of the product. Tandur assembly segment, located 115 km

BRS calls RBI's move to withdraw Rs 2,000 notes 'illogical, absurd'

The ruling party in Telangana- Bharat Rashtra Samithi- has slammed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government over the announcement by the Reserve Bank of India to withdraw Rs 2,000 denomination currency notes from circulation. The RBI on Friday night announced withdrawal of Rs 2,000 currency notes from circulation and said existing notes in circulation can either be deposited in bank accounts or exchanged by September 30. "The government of India's decision to withdraw Rs 2,000 notes is completely absurd and illogical. Actually Mr Narendra Modi has proven himself that he is an inefficient and incapable (PM), and the demonetisation that was announced in the year 2016 was completely a failure," the party's spokesperson Sravan Dasoju said in a video message released on Friday night. Alleging the note ban was a big "scam," Dasoju asked Modi as to what happened to the statements during the demonetisation in 2016 that it will "curtail black money and infiltration of ...
