UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis has lauded India's use of digitalisation that has helped achieve financial inclusion and poverty reduction, underlining that this gives the country a comparative advantage and its lessons can be shared with the global community. United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) president Dennis Francis on Friday said he was inspired by the liveliness, energy and pace of development in Mumbai and shared that he has watched Hindi movies. The visiting dignitary made the comments during his meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, a release from the CM Office said. 'UNGA president to visit India, hold meeting with EAM Jaishankar'

President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis is undertaking an official visit to India from January 22 to 26 during which he will visit New Delhi, Jaipur and Mumbai and also meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, according to an official statement issued by his office. During his five-day trip, Francis will hold bilateral discussions with the India leadership and engage with civil society, leading think tanks, embark on field visits and participate in events related to sustainability, multilateralism, accessibility, and digital public infrastructure, among other engagements. UN General Assembly President Dennis Francis to visit India this month

United Nations General Assembly President Dennis Francis will embark on his maiden official visit to India later this month after assuming the highest position of the UN's main policy-making organ. The president of the 78th session of the UNGA, Francis, will first pay an official visit to Kampala, Uganda, starting Wednesday, his office said in a statement on Tuesday. Francis' four-day visit to Kampala from January 17 to 21 will be to attend the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, held under the theme Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence. He will also attend the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China on January 21, convened under the theme Leaving No One Behind. The UN Security Council is caught in a "concerning state of paralysis" and aims to serve the predominance of Global North countries, UNGA President Dennis Francis has said, underlining the need for representation and equitable participation of developing nations in decision-making in a reformed Council. Underlining that reform is our collective task and responsibility, Francis said that as the President of the 78th session of the General Assembly, he believes that we need a Council that is more balanced, representative, responsive, democratic and transparent.
