Cops enter Hathras preacher's ashram to check security, say he is not there

Police entered the ashram premises of religious preacher Jagat Guru Saakar Vishwahari Bhole Baba here and later said he was not present there. A police official said they had gone there to check security arrangements. Police personnel have been deployed outside the ashram since the stampede at the preacher's congregation in Harthras claimed 121 lives. In reply to a question by reporters, Circle Officer Sunil Kumar Singh said police and special operation group (SOG) personnel entered the ashram premises on Wednesday night. "There were 50-60 sevadars (volunteers), including women, inside the ashram," he said. Asked whether 'Satsang' preacher Bhole Baba is inside the ashram or not, the police officer said, "He (Baba) was neither there yesterday nor today." Six hurt in attack on Samajwadi Party leader Vijay Yadav's residence in UP

Six people, including a six-year-old child, were injured when assailants fired at the residence of Samajwadi Party leader and former corporator Vijay Yadav, police said on Monday. The incident took place in the Dashashavmedh area on Sunday, the police said. According to the police, the SP leader alleged in his complaint that the assailants wanted to kill his entire family. An FIR has been lodged against accused Ankit Yadav, Shobhit Verma, Govind Yadav, Sahil Yadav and other unidentified persons, they said. Among the injured were Nirbhay Yadav (6), Kiran Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Dinesh Yadav and Shubham alias Golu, the police said. All the injured are undergoing treatment in a hospital and are in stable condition, they added. FIR lodged against 95 over violence in Firozabad inmate death case

Police have lodged an FIR against 45 named and 50 unidentified accused for rioting over the death of a prisoner lodged in the Firozabad jail, an official said on Saturday. A 25-year-old Dalit man remanded in judicial custody on charges of theft died in a hospital, where he was taken on Friday after his condition deteriorated in the prison. The family members of Akash, the victim, alleged that he died after being beaten by the police. His post-mortem was completed on Friday and, while taking the body back, some people attacked the police and vandalised police vehicles, the official said. Inspector General of Police (Agra zone) Deepak Kumar has been camping in Firozabad since Friday to ensure law and order. UP cops suspended over social media posts in favour of Mukhtar Ansari

Action has been taken against two Uttar Pradesh police constables for allegedly posting comments on social media in favour of gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari who died last week, officials said on Wednesday. Ansari, a five-time MLA, died last week at Rani Durgawati Medical College after being taken there from Banda jail when his health deteriorated. He was laid to rest in Ghazipur amid a blanket of security. A day after Ansari's burial, police constable Faiyaz Khan, posted at a police station in Lucknow, allegedly made certain comments in favour of the gangster-politician on his WhatsApp status and also raised doubts over his death. Security tightened up in UP's Ghazipur ahead of Mukhtar Ansari's burial

Security arrangements have been strengthened outside the residence of Mukhtar Ansari in Ghazipur and a burial ground in the Uttar Pradesh district ahead of the last rites of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari on Saturday. The last rites of Mukhtar Ansari, who died due to a cardiac arrest on Thursday and whose body was brought to his home town around midnight on Friday, is scheduled to be held around 10 am, sources in the family said. Rituals related to Ansari's burial are underway and the body will be taken to the Kali Bagh burial ground where a grave was dug on Friday, the sources said. The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday cancelled the recently held police constable recruitment examination following allegations of question paper leak and ordered a re-test within six months. The state government also announced a probe into the allegations by the Special Task Force (STF). More than 48 lakh candidates appeared in the examination conducted on February 17 and 18 across the state. In a post in Hindi on 'X', Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "There can be no compromise with the sanctity of examinations. Those who toy with the hard work of youngsters will not be spared under any circumstances. Strictest action is certain to be taken against such unruly elements." UP CM Yogi announces 3-year age relaxation for UP Police recruitment

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday issued an order providing three-year age relaxation for candidates applying for the recruitment of 60,244 police constables. The chief minister's instruction to the Home Department came in the wake of demands from youths and public representatives who cited the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on career prospects of youngsters in the state.
