Cops book outsourced staff of UP helpline 112 after protests on salary hike

Police on Wednesday booked five named and 200 unidentified women outsourced employees of the emergency helpline UP 112, a day after they staged a protest outside its headquarters here demanding a salary hike and job security. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Police Sub-Inspector Dhirendra Pratap Singh at the Sushant Golf City police station. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, (South Zone), Shashank Singh, said that the protestors have been booked under the IPC sections 147 (rioting), 149 (every member is of part of unlawful assembly) 188 ( assembly of more than five), 283 (obstruction to public passage) and 341 (wrongful restraint). Those named in the FIR include Harishta Srivastava, Pooja Singh, Reena Sharma, and Shashi while police are trying to identify the other unidentified mentioned in the FIR. NHRC issues notice to UP Police over killing of Atiq Ahmad, brother

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh Police over the killing of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf when they were being escorted by police in Prayagraj, officials said on Tuesday. In its notice to the Director General of Police of Uttar Pradesh and the Commissioner of Police of Prayagraj, the commission sought reports from them within four weeks. The reports should cover all the aspects leading to the killings, copies of medical-legal certificates of the deceased, inquest report, post-mortem report, video cassette/CD of post-mortem examination, site plan of scene of occurrence of the crime, and magisterial enquiry report, it added. Ahmad and Ashraf were shot dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction on Saturday night when police personnel were escorting them to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup. 183 criminals killed in police encounters since March 2017: UP Police

The Uttar Pradesh Police said Friday that they have gunned down 183 alleged criminals in encounters in the six years of Yogi Adityanath's government and this included gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad's son Asad and his accomplice, who were killed in an exchange of fire in Jhansi. The UP Police data showed that more than 10,900 police encounters have taken place in the state since March 2017, when Adityanath took over as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the first time. In these encounters, 23,300 alleged criminals were arrested and 5,046 were injured. The number of policemen injured in them was 1,443 and 13 were killed, the data showed. Of the 13 policemen killed in encounters since March 2017, eight were ambushed in a narrow lane of Kanpur by the aides of notorious gangster Vikas Dubey. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said before 2017, the average response time of police during an emergency was an hour, which has now reduced to 9.44 minutes. Two Chinese nationals roaming around the Indo-Nepal border in Sonauli area here have been detained by the Sashastra Seema Bal, the Uttar Pradesh police said on Saturday. According to police, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans were doing routine checking along the border when they came across the foreign nationals late Friday. The foreigners were asked the reason for their visiting the area and on not getting a satisfactory answer, the jawans took them into custody. Inspector in-charge of Sonauli police station, Abhishek Singh said intelligence agencies are questioning the duo. "Both have passports of the Republic of China in the names of Zheng Yingjun (50) and Song Hui (52). Their visas to enter India have also expired. Eleven people have been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly using unfair means in the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) 2022 conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Service Commission (UPSSSC). Lakhimpur Kheri rape case: Police mull slapping stringent NSA on 6 accused

The Uttar Pradesh Police is mulling over slapping the stringent National Security Act against the six people arrested for the rape and murder of two Dalit sisters in the state's Lakhimpur Kheri. The sisters, aged 15 and 17, were found hanging from a tree in a sugarcane field on Wednesday evening. The National Security Act (NSA) allows the detention of people up to one year without any charge. "We are mulling to impose the NSA on the six accused persons. Apart from this, DNA samples of the six accused persons and the two girls will also be sent for an examination," Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Suman told PTI on Friday.
