India, Uzbekistan discuss ways to ensure quality, safety in pharma sector

A delegation from Uzbekistan met officials from India's Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation and discussed areas of collaboration, including the development of a pharmacovigilance system and reducing adverse effects of pharmaceutical products, officials said on Wednesday. The delegation led by Alisher Temirov, Director of the Center for Pharmaceutical Products Safety, Uzbekistan had detailed discussions with Ranga Chandrashekar, Joint Drugs Controller of India's regulatory body for drug control, regarding the quality and safety in the pharma sector, they added. "Several important issues were discussed during the meeting, including the development of a pharmacovigilance system, reducing the adverse effects of pharmaceutical products, and identifying ways to prevent potential risks. India, Uzbekistan sign investment treaty to boost investor confidence

India and Uzbekistan on Friday signed the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) aimed at boosting the confidence of investors of both the countries. The BIT between the Indian government and the government of Republic of Uzbekistan was signed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Khodjayev Jamshid Abdukhakimovich, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, at Tashkent. The BIT between India and Uzbekistan assures appropriate protection to Uzbekistan investors in India and Indian investors in the Republic of Uzbekistan, in light of relevant international precedents and practices, an official statement said. Sitharaman to visit Uzbekistan from Sept 24 to 28, attend AIIB annual meet

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will attend the 9th Annual Meeting of Board of Governors of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) scheduled in Samarkand, and hold bilateral meetings with her counterparts from Uzbekistan, Qatar, China, and AIIB President. She will embark on an official visit to Uzbekistan from September 24 to 28, the finance ministry said in a release. CAG signs pact with Uzbekistan's Chamber of Accounts to foster cooperation

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India signed a pact with Uzbekistan's Chamber of Accounts in Tashkent to foster international cooperation. Special Judge Arvind Kumar allowed Goswami to travel to Uzbekistan from October 17, 2023 to November 1, 2023. The judge was told by the counsel appearing for Goswami that the accused was an economist by training and had considerable interest in the historical details, especially the 'Silk Route' and the cities along the path, such as Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva and that he intended to write a research article on the 'Silk Route.' DGCA approves IndiGo's flight services to Tashkent from September 6

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved flights of IndiGo to Tashkent, Uzbekistan. On Wednesday, the airline announced that it would start services to Tashkent from September 22. A senior official on Thursday said the regulator has approved operations of IndiGo to Tashkent with effect from September 6. This means that the airline has been permitted to start services anytime from September 6 onwards. IndiGo will be operating four weekly non-stop flights between Delhi and Tashkent, which will be the airline's 31st international destination.

IndiGo to start flights from Delhi to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan next month

No-frills airline IndiGo on Wednesday announced the launch of its direct air services to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in Central Asia from Delhi next month, subject to regulatory approval. The four times a week air services between Delhi and Tashkent in Uzbekistan will commence from September 22, while Almaty in Kazakhstan will be connected with Delhi from September 23 with three flights per week, IndiGo said. With the launch of flight services to these two new cities, IndiGo will be operating to a total of 111 destinations, including 32 in the international markets, the airline said. The introduction of this new route aims to improve India's connectivity to Kazakhstan, Central Asia's prominent financial centre, the airline said. Uzbek kids' death: Licence of Marion Biotech cancelled by UP authority

The manufacturing licence of Noida-based pharmaceutical firm Marion Biotech was cancelled on Wednesday by Uttar Pradesh authorities, according to officials. Marion Biotech's cough syrup Dok-1 was linked with the death of 18 children in Uzbekistan. The incident which happened last December had prompted central and state drug authorities in India to launch a probe into the matter. "The firm's licence was under suspension since January after which a detailed inquiry was initiated. Now the licence of the firm has been cancelled by the Uttar Pradesh Drugs Controlling and Licensing Authority. The firm can no longer manufacture the syrup," a government official said. On March 3, the Noida Police had arrested three employees of Marion Biotech from its office in Sector 67 while a lookout notice was issued for two of its directors after an FIR was lodged against all of them, the official said.
