Volkswagen strengthens retail footprint with new store in Tamil Nadu

German automaker Volkswagen has inaugurated a new store in the city under its expansion drive in the state, strengthening its retail presence in the country. With the setting up of a new outlet at Ambattur in the city, the total network for the automobile major stands at 26 sales and 20 service facilities in Tamil Nadu. "The Chennai Metropolitan area is one of the key markets for Volkswagen in India. In 2023, our Virtus was one of the highest-selling sedans in this market. With this inauguration of our newest touchpoint in Chennai, we are emphasising our commitment to the rising need for premium, safe, and reliable vehicles throughout India..", Volkswagen Passenger Cars India Brand Director Ashish Gupta said in a company statement on Saturday. The new store 'KUN Capital Motors' is headed by Director Arun Uppuswami and has a five-car display and 25 service bays, among others. Automaker Volkswagen India has partnered with Centre's Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandar scheme to offer its products to personnel of central security agencies and their families. Under this initiative, Volkswagen India is making its entire range of cars available to beneficiaries of the KPKB scheme across the country. The KPKB scheme was launched as a welfare initiative by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2006. It caters to serving and retired members of the Central Armed Police Forces and their families. Volkswagen focuses on premium products after selling 45% PVs in India

With nearly 45 per cent of passenger vehicles sold in India coming from models priced above Rs 10 lakh so far this year, German carmaker Volkswagen is focussing on premium products in the country following its global strategy, according to a senior company official. The company, which till about three to four years back was operating in a price bracket of Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh, has now moved up to an average price band of Rs 16 lakh offering feature-loaded products in order to meet the evolving customer demands. "For the industry, in 2018 around 18 per cent of the cars sold in India were above Rs 10 lakh. Last year it was at around 40 per cent and this year in first quarter it has already moved to about 43 to 45 per cent," Volkswagen Passenger Cars India Brand Director Ashish Gupta said in an interaction.
