IMD predicts rain, thundershowers in Himachal Pradesh

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted rain and thundershowers accompanied with hail storms in various parts of the state in next three hours.According to the weather forecasting agency, areas such as Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur will receive rainfall in the coming hours."Thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with hail and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places very likely over Himachal Pradesh," said the IMD in its advisory.Apart from Himachal Pradesh, others states such as Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, and Kerala are also likely to receive rains followed by thundershowers later in the day, the IMD predicted.The IMD has also predicted heat wave across coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the coming week with temperatures hovering between 45 to 47 degree Celsius.

Temperature in Delhi settles seven notches below season's average

Delhiites woke up to a pleasant Saturday morning as overnight rain at some places in the city brought the temperature down. Safdarjung observatory, the recording of which is considered official for the city, recorded a minimum temperature of 19.5 degrees Celsius, seven notches below the season's average. Humidity was recorded at 77 per cent. The observatory received a rainfall of 11.6mm. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 37 degrees Celsius. Palam observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 20.6 degrees Celsius, six notches below the season's average. It received a rainfall of 19.6 mm. Humidity was recorded at 75 per cent. The weatherman has forecast cloudy skies for the day with the possibility of thunderstorm accompanied with very light rains and gusty winds. On Friday, the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.6 degrees Celsius while the maximum was recorded at 37.4 degrees Celsius.

32 flights diverted from Delhi due to bad weather

Thirty-two flights were diverted from the Delhi airport on Friday due to bad weather, officials said. "The flights have been diverted from Delhi to nearby airports, including Lucknow, Jaipur and Amritsar due to rain and winds," said a Delhi airport official. Ten flights were diverted between 4 pm and 5 pm, and another 22 were diverted between 9 pm and 10 pm due to inclement weather, another official said.

IMD predicts heat wave across AP, Telangana

Rain lashes parts of Delhi, 11 flights diverted

Light rain lashed parts of the national capital on Friday evening bringing respite from the heat but the cloudy weather caused the diversion of as many as 11 flights from the IGI airport till 9. 30 pm, officials said."There is air congestion due to bad weather. Rains bring respite from heat in Delhi

Rains lashed several parts of the national capital on Friday providing some relief to Delhiites from the scorching heat. The Safdarjung observatory, recording of which is considered official for the city, received 2.4 mm of rainfall till 5.30 pm. Areas under Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar received 7.6 mm, 1.8 mm, 0.2 mm and 3.6 mm of rainfall, respectively. The minimum temperature was recorded at 24.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, while the maximum was recorded at 37.4 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average. Temp drops in Raj after dust storm and light rains

The maximum temperature dropped by a few notches in Rajasthan on Friday after dust storm and light rains lashed parts of the state, a MeT Department official said Friday. Several places in east and west regions of the state witnessed rainfall ranging from 1 to 4 cm till 8 am, he said. On Friday, Pachpadra recorded 4 cm of rainfall followed by 3 cm in Sikar and Bhilwara, 2 cm in Pokaran, Padampur, Khajuwala, Shergarh, Barmer, Fatehgarh and Raniwada, 8.5 mm in Jodhpur and 0.5 mm in Ajmer, he said. Rain lashes Himachal

Maximum temperatures in Himachal Pradesh decreased by a few notches after rains lashed several parts of the state Thursday, the meteorological department said. The weatherman also issued 'yellow' weather warning of thunderstorm accompanied with hailstorm and gusty winds for Friday. Maximum temperatures decreased by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius as precipitation occurred at many places over the state during last 24 hours, the Shimla Met Centre said. Dharamshala received 37.8 mm rain, followed by Kangra (37 mm), Dalhousie (33 mm) and Chamba (18 mm), it added. Shimla was lashed by 5.4 mm rain, whereas tourist places Manali and Kufri witnessed 5 mm and 4 mm rain, respectively. Rains in parts of Rajasthan bring respite from heat

Light rains lashed parts of Rajasthan Wednesday providing much-needed respite from the scorching heat. The weather turned pleasant in state capital Jaipur which received light rainfall in the evening. Till 8 am Wednesday, Tibi of Hanumangarh district recorded 6 cm rainfall whereas 1 to 3 cm rainfall was witnessed in parts of east and west Rajasthan. Monsoon likely to arrive 5 days late on June 6

The monsoon is likely to be delayed this year as its arrival expected on June 6, five days after its normal onset date, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday. "This year, the statistical model forecast suggests that the monsoon onset over Kerala is likely to be slightly delayed," the IMD said. "The southwest monsoon onset is likely to set over Kerala on 6th June with a model error of plus or minus 4 days." "Conditions are becoming favourable for advance of southwest monsoon over the southern part of Andaman Sea, Nicobar Islands and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal during May 18-19," it added. The normal onset date for monsoon over Kerala is June 1, which also marks the official commencement of the four-month rainfall season. The IMD and private weather agency Skymet were unanimous on the prediction of the late arrival of monsoon this year.
