The maximum temperature in winter capital Jammu plummeted by over four notches on Monday to settle at 32 degrees Celsius, 6.4 degrees below season's average, the Meteorological Department (Met) said. The dip in the temperature for the second straight day came as a big relief for the residents of the city who had witnessed blistering heat earlier this month, with day temperatures hitting the season's highest of 44.4 degrees Celsius on June 10. Pre-monsoon rains lashed parts of Rajasthan on Monday, bringing respite to residents from heat and sultry weather. Several places in Dungarpur, Banswara, Sikar, Ajmer, Pratapgarh, Jhunjhunu, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Bikaner districts recorded rainfall ranging from 2 to 5 cms in the past 24 hours, a Meteorological Department official said. Jaipur, Sri Ganganagar and Dabok also received rainfall. An overcast sky and rainfall led to a sudden drop in maximum temperatures in most cities. Monsoon is likely to arrive in Delhi around June 29, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday dimissing reports of a delayed arrival in the national capital.Speaking to ANI, Dr K. Sathi Devi, a senior IMD official, said weather conditions will improve as monsoon further advanced into some parts of the central Arabian Sea and India's western coastline, Konkan."We are expecting monsoon to enter central and northern parts of Arabian Sea. Monsoon Monday hit the eastern and southern parts of Madhya Pradesh and was likely to cover more parts of the state in the next 48 hours, IMD Bhopal Office Duty Officer Gurudutt Mishra said. He told PTI that Balaghat, Mandla, Chhindwara and Khandwa districts of MP experienced monsoon rains as well as parts of Jabalpur, Indore and Ujjain divisions in the last 24 hours. Several parts of Chhattisgarh received some good spells of rain as the southwest monsoon has become active over the state, the weather department said on Sunday. The India Meteorological Department Sunday predicted widespread rainfall over Konkan region in Maharashtra and neighbouring Goa starting from Sunday till June 27. In a statement released Sunday afternoon, the IMD forecast widespread rainfall in Madhya Maharashtra and heavy rainfall in Marathwada, the intensity of which would go down progressively over the week. Vidarbha would continue to receive moderate showers but the intensity would go down from Monday onwards, the statement said.
