Indian women are taking the lead as change-makers in every field, NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma said here on Wednesday. She said sitting at home women are also trying to learn something new because of the societal mindset change. "Women are now the change makers, and we are not only changing for the better, but we are the change-makers in the society, whether entrepreneurship, start-ups or having own business, being in services, CEO of companies or a homemaker", the National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson said while talking to reporters here. Republic Day celebrations: Tableaus set to display 'women empowerment'

This Republic Day, tableaus are all set to display 'women empowerment' at Kartavya Path, as the Centre aims to make the programme a women-centric one with the motto 'Viksit Bharat'. Highlighting women's crucial roles in socio-economic activities, Manipur tableau will feature women working with delicate fibers from the lotus stems and making yarns using traditional 'charkhas'. The front of the tableau will feature a woman collecting lotus stems from Manipur's Loktak lake. The women riding on boats and collecting lotus stems will be displayed on the sides of the tableau. At the end of the Manipur tableau, a replica of 'Ima Keithel' -- a unique all women's market -- has been made. The market is centuries old and is run entirely by women. Women are the backbone of Parliament and the country's economic development, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said on Thursday asserting that women in legislatures would help the governance in evolution of policies that would lead to the resolution of larger issues. "Giving justice to your gender is automatic justice to my gender," he said as he invited students of Delhi University's Miranda House College to witness the proceedings of the Winter session of Parliament. Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh on Tuesday felicitated the top 20 rank holders of the civil services examination, the majority of them being women, here and said the country is moving from women participation to women leadership. In his welcome address, he described the 2022 batch of civil servants as the "Batch of Change Leaders", as they will be in key positions of governance when India will celebrate 100 years of Independence after 25 years as one of the frontline countries of the world. 19 state legislatures have less than 10% women lawmakers: Govt data

Women representation in parliament and most state legislatures across the country is below 15 per cent with 19 of state assemblies having less than 10 per cent women lawmakers, according to a government data. The state legislatures which have more than 10 per cent women lawmakers are Bihar (10.70), Chhattisgarh (14.44), Haryana (10), Jharkhand (12.35), Punjab (11.11), Rajasthan (12), Uttarakhand (11.43), Uttar Pradesh (11.66), West Bengal (13.70) and Delhi (11.43). According to the data presented by Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju in the Lok Sabha on December 9, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Goa, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Telangana have less than 10 per cent women legislators.
