Anna Sebastian Perayil, who cracked the tough Chartered Accountant exam in 2023 and worked at Ernst and Young, Pune office for four months, died in July. According to a letter her mother wrote to the EY India Chairman, Perayil was overworked with a "backbreaking" load as a new employee that affected her "physically, emotionally, and mentally". In an event held at Chennai on Saturday, Sitharaman had in an apparent reference to the incident, said families should teach the children to handle pressure through divinity. Poor work-life balance, flexibility, and job dissatisfaction are leading to 4-5 per cent annual increase in 'infant attrition' -- employees quitting within six months of joining -- mainly in sectors like consumer durables, IT, and software, and BFSI, a senior executive of TeamLease Services said. "Infant attrition in India, mainly seen in the 22-32 years age group, is growing annually at 4-5 per cent and is mostly driven by factors like poor work-life balance and flexibility, which is particularly important to younger workers, job dissatisfaction, inadequate onboarding, insufficient compensation, making employees seek better opportunities," TeamLease Services Chief Strategy Officer Subburathinam P told PTI. One in every four GenZ respondents in India is more inclined towards new-age job fields like Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity and content creation while 43 per cent are willing to sacrifice the work-life balance to succeed in their career, a study has found. The study, the Quest Report 2024, which unveils Gen Z traits and trends on dreams, careers, and aspirations, also found that only 9 per cent of respondents want to pursue entrepreneurship as they seek stability and security in work life. Job security, positive work culture among priorities for employees: Report

Job security, positive work culture and regular feedback are among the priorities for employees in India, according to a report released on Wednesday. The findings are part of consultancy firm Mercer's 2024 Global Talent Trends report that includes insights from more than 500 employees in Indian organisations. Globally, the report gathered insights from over 12,200 C-suite executives, HR leaders, employees and investors across 17 geographies and 16 industries. In a release, Mercer said that regular feedback is a priority for Indian workers. Compared to the global average (42 per cent), a higher percentage of Indian respondents (50 per cent) said that they receive regular feedback on how their performance and skills impact their careers. "Job security and positive work culture are top priorities for Indian employees. When asked about their top reasons for staying with their employers, 37 per cent of Indian respondents cited job security, while 36 per cent mentioned a positive work .

Majority of Inian workers likely to stay given good organisational culture

India has emerged as the leading country in terms of workplace culture, as a significant percentage of Indian workers consider a positive organisational culture as a primary factor for their commitment, according to a report. As per the recent research conducted by SHRM, 64 per cent of Indian workers are likely to stay if given good organisational culture, significantly higher than the global average of 37 per cent among employees. The study, based on 1,000 responses from India out of a global sample of 11,080 participants, noted that the key drivers for employee retention include a favourable organisational culture, job security, and fair treatment.
