French government collapses: Know why | Michel Barnier | no-confidence vote

In a historic move, the French government has collapsed after PM Michel Barnier lost a no-confidence vote in Parliament. This is the first time since 1962 that a French government has been toppled in such a manner. The no-confidence vote was prompted by budget disputes. Opposition parties accused Barnier of imposing austerity measures and failing to address citizens’ needs.
The National Assembly, France’s lower house of parliament, voted 331-288 in favour of the motion, exceeding the required minimum of 288 votes.
