A Greater Noida resident was arrested on Tuesday after he was found illegally cultivating cannabis inside his apartment in a housing society, police said.

Rahul Chaudhary, a native of Meerut district and an English graduate, was growing a variety of cannabis in planters in his flat on the 10th floor with a sophisticated cultivation set-up, they said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Saad Miya Khan said 80 ganja plants along with over 2 kg of cannabis were seized from the apartment of the accused.

He had been cultivating cannabis for about six months. He was inspired by web series and crime dramas to get into the illegal cultivation of the contraband in his apartment, the DCP said.

Chaudhary was held near the P-3 roundabout in the Beta-2 area by the local Beta-2 police station officials along with those from Ecotech-1 police station and in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Team of the district, Khan said.

Aviation watchdog DGCA has withdrawn the Line Training Captain approval given to an Akasa Air pilot for lapses in landing of a passenger aircraft in March 2024, till further orders, according to sources.
Besides, the permission given to the pilot for carrying Short Take Off and Landing (STOL) has been withdrawn.
This is the latest incident of Akasa Air coming under regulatory scanner for lapses.
In an order issued on Monday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in an audit of Akasa Air conducted in October last year found that the pilot had made a hard landing, which means the aircraft had made an abnormal contact with the runway, the sources said.
The incident was closed with a counselling session and no corrective training was imparted to the pilot concerned, as per the order.
DGCA found that the replies by the airline and the pilot to its show cause notices, issued in November 2024, were not satisfactory.

The Supreme Court on Monday said a foreigner should not be allowed to leave India if required to answer a criminal charge.
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Ujjal Bhyuan said while granting bail to a foreign national, the court should issue a direction to the state or the prosecuting agency, to immediately inform about its order to the registration officer concerned under the Registration of Foreigners Rules, 1992.
"When a foreigner's presence is required in India to answer a criminal charge, permission to leave India must be refused. Under the Order (1948 order), the civil authority can impose restrictions on the movements of a foreigner," the bench said.
The bench said the registration officer should then communicate the bail order to all relevant agencies, including the civil authority.
The apex court's order came in a case where it had decided two main issues concerning bail conditions imposed on a Nigerian national in a drugs case in July, 2024.

All-India Plastics Manufacturers' Association on Monday urged the government for a production-linked incentive scheme for the sector in the upcoming Budget 2025, to increase India's share in the global plastics market.
In a pre-budget consultation meeting with the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, All-India Plastics Manufacturers' Association (AIPMA) said it has asked the government to reduce GST to 'nil' for plastic waste as well as recycling machinery, to encourage recycling.
Besides, it has also sought lowering of GST to 5 per cent, from 18 per cent, on the conversion cost of recycled plastic granules, and providing a 20 per cent subsidy to purchase capital equipment for recycling, the association said in a statement.
