Rupee near all-time low: 3 big reasons why rupee is falling?

Petronet LNG Ltd, India's largest gas importer, on Friday reported a 25 per cent drop in its June quarter net profit, and said it will invest Rs 6,355 crore in setting up a new import facility at Odisha.
Net profit of Rs 850.58 crore in April-June was lower than Rs 1,141.58 crore last year, mainly because of lower volumes imported due to a fall in power demand on early arrival of monsoon.
The firm's Dahej liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Gujarat imported 207 trillion BTUs (British thermal unit) as compared to 248 TBtus in April-June 2024, its chief executive, A K Singh, told reporters on an earnings call.
Overall, the company processed 220 TBTUs in April-June - the first quarter of the current 2025-26 fiscal - as opposed to 262 TBTUs last year.
"LNG throughput in Q1 is lower than corresponding quarter mainly because there was a severe power requirement (in April-June 2024) which necessitated substantial LNG imports," he said, adding this year early and severe monsoon

Jammu and Kashmir Bank on Friday posted a 16.7 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 484.84 crore in the April-June quarter of FY26.
The bank had reported a profit after tax (PAT) or net profit of Rs 415.49 crore in the same period of the previous fiscal year, J&K Bank said in a statement.
Net Interest Income (NII) during the reporting quarter grew 7 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,465.43 crore, while the other income jumped 29 per cent to Rs 250.30 crore from Rs 194.10 crore recorded last year.
Return on Assets (RoA) in the quarter improved to 1.17 per cent from 1.08 per cent a year ago, while Net Interest Margin (NIM) stood at 3.72 per cent as against 3.86 per cent recorded in Q4FY25. Bank's cost-to-income ratio also improved to 60.78 per cent YoY, it said.
Operating profit witnessed a 13 per cent increase to Rs 672.84 crore from Rs 594.67 crore recorded in the corresponding period last year, the bank said.

According to the proposed guidelines, candidates must secure an average of 33 per cent marks, combining both internal assessment and external examination, to be declared pass.
This reduction was implemented through an amendment to the Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board Act, 1966.
"Candidates shall secure an average of 33 per cent marks in internal assessment and external examination combined and shall be declared pass if they secure at least 206 marks out of a total of 625 marks, including at least 30 per cent marks in each subject out of the total marks of the respective subject," the notification issued by the Department of School Education & Literacy stated.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Friday presented a Rs 40,187 crore-budget for the megapolis.
Infrastructure spends across projects have been pegged at Rs 35,151 crore or 87 per cent of the overall expenditure, as per an official statement. The revenues have been estimated at Rs 36,939 crore, and the body chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will be borrowing Rs 22,000 crore.
This will result in a budget deficit of Rs 3,249 crore, which the body plans to bridge through land sales, issuance of bonds, financial assistance from the government, and loans from financial institutions, the statement said.

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday returned the Finance Bill 2025 to the Lok Sabha, along with 35 government amendments, including one that abolishes a 6 per cent digital tax on online advertisements, thus completing the 2025-26 budgetary exercise that started on February 1.
The House also returned the Appropriation Bill (3) with a voice vote.
Earlier in the day, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had moved the two bills in the House.
The Lok Sabha had passed the Finance Bill on March 25 and passed the Appropriation Bill on March 21.
Replying to the debate later in the evening, she said the tendency of the finance ministry would be to exercise caution and not let go of revenues.
