A MiG-29 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force crashed in a field near Uttar Pradesh's Agra on Monday during a routine training sortie after it encountered a "system malfunction", officials said.
The pilot manoeuvered the aircraft to ensure no damage to life or property on the ground before ejecting safely, the IAF said, adding, a Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the crash.

Avenue Supermarts, which owns and operates the retail chain D-Mart, has announced a top-level management reshuffle with the appointment of Unilever's Anshul Asawa as its CEO Designate.

Avenue Supermarts Ltd, which owns and operates the retail chain D-Mart, on Saturday reported a 4.8 per cent rise in its consolidated net profit to Rs 723.54 crore for the third quarter ended December 2024.
The company had posted a net profit of Rs 690.41 crore a year ago, according to a regulatory filing by Avenue Supermarts.
Its revenue from operations rose 17.68 per cent to Rs 15,972.55 crore during the quarter under review. It was Rs 13,572.47 crore in the corresponding quarter of the last fiscal.
"PAT margin stood at 4.5 per cent in Q3 FY25 as compared to 5.1 per cent in Q3 FY24," Avenue Supermarts said in its earnings statement.
Its total expenses increased 18.52 per cent to Rs 15,001.64 crore.
Avenue Supermarts' total income, which includes other income, was Rs 15,996.69 crore, up 17.57 per cent in the December 2024 quarter.

An NGO on Saturday claimed that at least 474 homeless people in Delhi have died due to "winter exposure" between November 15, 2024, and January 10, 2025.
The claim made by Centre for Holistic Development (CHD), an NGO working for the welfare of homeless, however, has no official confirmation.
In a letter addressed to Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) Chief Executive Officer Ravi Dhawan, CHD cited police statistics, indicating that an alarming 80 per cent of "unidentified dead bodies" in the city are believed of homeless individuals.
"Between November 15 2024 to January 10, 2025, 474 homeless people died in Delhi due to the 'winter exposure' and unavailability of essential protective measures such as warm clothing, blankets, or adequate shelter," the NGO claimed.
CHD also highlighted that people living on the streets face numerous health challenges, including respiratory infections, skin ailments, arthritis flare-ups, and deterioratin

Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor was on Saturday discharged from a hospital in Patna following improvement in his health condition, the party said in a statement.
However, the 47-year-old former political strategist is continuing with the 'fast-unto-death' that he launched on January 2 in protest against alleged irregularities in a BPSC exam held last month.
"Prashant Kishor's 'anshan' (fast) in support of BPSC aspirants continues. He has been discharged from the hospital in the evening as his health has improved. Further details about his 'satyagraha' will be made known tomorrow," the statement said.
