Portion of non-functional bridge between Unnao and Kanpur collapses

A section of a historic bridge over the Ganga, linking Kanpur and Unnao, collapsed into the river early Tuesday, according to locals. Built during the British era, the bridge had been closed for nearly four years. The collapse occurred around 2 am, with no casualties or incidents reported, they added.

Supreme Court dismisses petition for reverting to ballot paper voting in elections

The Supreme Court rejected a petition seeking the return to ballot paper voting in Indian elections. A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and P B Varale remarked, “When you win the election, EVMs are not tampered with. When you lose, EVMs are tampered with.” The plea also requested several other measures, including a directive for the Election Commission to disqualify candidates for at least five years if found guilty of offering money, liquor, or other inducements to voters during elections.
